Responsibilities:
- Lead our Underwriting Department with strategic insight into lending activities and play a crucial role in steering our Credit Union towards safety and soundness. Innovate and implement efficient processes while ensuring robust internal controls. As a guiding force, coach and develop underwriters, reviewing loans to achieve excellence. Communicate departmental successes and challenges to management, driving forward our collective success.
- Evaluate and analyze credit applications by reviewing credit reports, employment details, debt ratios, and collateral. Approve within your authority and recommend decisions on others. Spot and pursue cross-sell opportunities while supporting the growth of our lending team. Engage with applicants, gather necessary information, and ensure smooth loan processing.
- Perform routine audits of loans approved through automation and loans that are nonperforming. Look for trends and make adjustments as necessary to ensure safety and soundness.
- Work with outside vendors to enhance sales penetration and coordinate portfolio safety as needed. Duties may include direct interactions with auto dealers, indirect relationships or other potential volume generating activities.

Requirements
- Three to five years of experience in Underwriting
- Previous experience in leadership/management preferred.
- Two-year Degree or completion or specialized certification or licensing, or completion of Specialized training acquired through previous underwriting roles.
- Superior written and verbal communication.
- Comprehensive understanding of lending and strong analytical skills.
