The Role
As a Maritime Life Support Engineer, your role will include using core mechanical engineering knowledge together with numerical tools to keep the current UK fleet operating and improve the tools and design for future platforms. 

 

Day-to-day, the primary focus of the job will be the delivery of technical projects relating to the systems and processes for conducting escape and rescue from submarines in addition to provision of engineering support and advice for diving and life support systems including hyperbaric medicine services.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Work within the Engineering team to deliver projects relating to the safe escape and rescue from submarines. You will either deliver a small part of the project individually or work with other team members to deliver a larger and more complex element
  • Combine subject matter expertise and sound engineering judgement to solve problems; breakdown complex tasks and then execute the planned schedule of work
  • Deliver the work within the agreed quality, timescale and budget, communicating with the Project Technical Lead, PM community and other supporting functions to track progress and address any issues
  • Use project work and other training opportunities to develop your skills and knowledge to the betterment of yourself and the overall capability you are working in
  • Where applicable, mentor less experienced team members to improve the knowledge of your areas across the wider engineering and technical communities
  • Where appropriate, produce elements of deliverables, design reports and documentation, as well as briefing the customer on the work and the findings

 

Essential experience of the Maritime Life Support Engineer:

  • Understanding of Mechanical Engineering principles
  • Demonstrable interest in Maritime Engineering

 

Essential qualifications for the Maritime Life Support Engineer:

  • BEng in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent applicable engineering experience

This role is 37 hours per week based at Haslar, Gosport. Travel to other QinetiQ and customer sites will be expected.
