This is a 12-week paid internship working a minimum of 3 days per week from our San Jose, CA or Durham, NC office. The internship will start in May or June 2026, depending on your availability.

Your Role

• Our interns work across a range of teams and projects spanning a variety of technology areas, including, but not limited to: 
  • Hypervisors built from open-source technologies
  • Full multi-cloud and hybrid-cloud database engines
  • Virtual machine dynamic scheduling
  • Software-defined networks
  • Distributed systems, distributed storage, and platform deployment
  • Linux kernel development
  • Performance and scale of storage systems, and more!
• Apply your skills and knowledge from your degree to one or more real-world projects to help enhance the speed, efficiency, and/or functionality of our products 
• Shadow our engineers to learn and improve your skills related to a variety of technologies and tools
• Work with a mentor to define your project objectives and key results
• Learn, grow, and explore with training and mentoring from our experienced team of technical experts

What You Will Bring

• Applicants must be authorized to work in the US without requiring current or future sponsorship for an employment visa status, such as F1, H1B, or TN.
• Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field.
• No professional experience, other than prior internships.
• Projects in backend, data systems-centric programming.
• Preferably 2–3 systems academic courses, e.g., operating systems, parallel programming, distributed systems, DBMS, etc.
• Fluency in at least one of the following languages: Java, C++, Python, or Golang
• A passion for problem-solving

The Process 

We understand you are pursuing multiple employment options.  Please note these important steps.  

• Application Screening: We will review your application to understand your unique talents and skills in relation to our opportunities 
• Online Technical Assessment: We will review your foundational skills through a coding skills assessment in the language of your choice
• Technical interviews with our hiring teams to showcase your skills  
  • Students who advance to this round will receive preparation prior to the interviews 
  • Expect up to 3 interviews with Nutanix engineers and leaders. These are designed to assess your technical skills, role readiness, and your motivation for the opportunity at Nutanix. Each meeting will offer you an opportunity to ask questions and learn more about the team you’ll potentially work with 
• Final Decision: Offers extended to finalists within 2 weeks of the technical interview

Work Arrangement

Hybrid: This role operates in a hybrid capacity, blending the benefits of remote work with the advantages of in-person collaboration. For most roles, that will mean coming into an office a minimum of 3 days per week, however certain roles and/or teams may require more frequent in-office presence. Additional team-specific guidance and norms will be provided by your manager.

The pay range for this position at commencement of employment is expected to be between USD $ 36 and USD $ 60 per hour.

However, base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, including a sign-on bonus, restricted stock units, and discretionary awards in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits (including 401(k) eligibility and various paid time off benefits, such as vacation, sick time, and parental leave), dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment.

If hired, employee will be in an “at-will position” and the Company reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other discretionary payment or compensation program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, Company or individual department/team performance, and market factors.
