PCSI seeks a motivated, friendly, and seasoned Lead HVAC Mechanic to join our team. This role will deliver the highest-quality service for our customers. The Lead HVAC Mechanic is responsible for overseeing the installation, maintenance, calibration, and repair of all HVAC systems across the Detroit Army Arsenal. This role ensures optimal performance and reliability of HVAC infrastructure through effective scheduling, work order management, and coordination of personnel and resources. The ideal candidate should have some experience working with a diverse work group, such as Veterans and individuals with disabilities.

What You'll Do as a Lead HVAC Mechanic:

Shift: 7:30 am – 4:00 pm Monday – Friday (subject to adjustment based on operational needs)

Rate of Pay: $47.20 per hour plus Health & Welfare (union shop)

Summary:

  • Possesses in-depth expertise in HVAC systems, including chillers, boilers, air handlers, VAVs, pneumatic controls, air compressor systems, refrigeration units, and cooling towers. Demonstrated ability to diagnose and troubleshoot issues across a wide range of system sizes and configurations.
  • Reviews preventive maintenance (PMO) tasks and job orders in the DTA CMMS daily to assess shop workload, prioritize tasks in line with the site’s work priority plan, and assign work to team members. Monitors progress to prevent delinquency and provide daily updates to the HVAC Supervisor on any overdue or delayed work.
  • Oversee in the field 6 journeymen-level HVAC technicians, subcontractor work, including EMCS, and assigned Laborer support.
  • Provides leadership and mentorship to journeymen HVAC Mechanics, leveraging experience and technical expertise to support their professional development within an industrial and commercial facility environment.
  • Supports the Project Work Order (PWO) program by contributing to project estimation, planning, execution, and vendor coordination to ensure timely and cost-effective delivery of site initiatives.
  • Accurately research and identify the correct parts, tools, and supplies needed for maintenance and repair tasks.
  • Demonstrates a thorough understanding of local, state, and federal HVAC codes and standards to ensure compliance with PCSI and Detroit Arsenal safety and environmental regulations.
  • Provide interdepartmental communication and collaboration with other PCSI facility departments.
  • On-call for after-hours emergency calls.
  • All other duties as assigned.

What You'll Need to Be Successful:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Must have (5) years of recent/relevant HVAC Mechanic experience or demonstrated mechanical ability to perform the assigned duties.
  • Must possess a valid and current EPA Universal Certification.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Ability to assess multiple issues (risk, resources, response) and determine the best course of action prior to finalizing a decision.
  • Proficiency in computer literacy and software applications is desired.
  • Ability to use hand tools, power tools, and appliances required to support maintenance and repair tasks.
  • Ability to follow maintenance instructions, service, diagnose systems, and complete repairs.
  • Familiar with Niagara Tridium Energy Management Control System (EMCS) operations in a secure multi-building environment.
  • Demonstrates a thorough understanding of local, state, and federal HVAC codes and standards to ensure compliance with PCSI and Detroit Arsenal safety and environmental regulations.
  • Able to effectively read, write, and speak the English language.

Working Conditions

  • Successfully pass pre-employment drug/alcohol screen, background check, and motor vehicle report.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain security clearance, including a National Agency Check with Inquiries (NACI) investigation.
  • Maintain a valid State of Michigan driver’s license and remain insurable to operate Company vehicles.
