Senior Manager of Internal Audit

 

SUMMARY

Mortenson is seeking a Senior Manager of Internal Audit who will be responsible for establishing and overseeing the internal audit function. This role supports the design and implementation of a comprehensive internal audit framework, focused on education, enhanced risk management, operational efficiency, and overall accountability.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assist in developing and implementing the internal audit framework to support organizational goals and priorities

  • Lead the planning of audit engagements, including risk assessment, scope definition, and resource allocation

  • Oversee audit engagements and identify areas of potential risk and recommend controls and process improvements to mitigate those risks

  • Evaluate business processes and systems, providing recommendations to enhance effectiveness and efficiency

  • Support and build relationships between internal audit and other core functions in Finance, HR, IT 

  • Prepare and communicate audit findings, risks, and recommendations to management, facilitating timely corrective actions

  • Monitor compliance with relevant regulations and internal policies, advising departments on best practices

  • Develop a high performing team culture and help others succeed

  • Stay informed about industry trends and best practices, contributing ideas to the audit function

  • All other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field

  • Professional certifications such as Certified Internal Auditor (CIA), Certified Public Accountant (CPA), or equivalent

  • Minimum of 7 years of experience in internal auditing 

  • Minimum of 2 years managing others 

  • Strong understanding of audit methodologies, risk management practices, and internal controls

  • Proven leadership skills with a focus on building, and developing high-performing teams, fostering collaboration and alignment across an organization

  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills

  • Strong financial planning and analysis skills

  • Innovative, process-oriented and strategic thinking skills 

  • Ability to foster relationships with external and internal partners 

  • Active listening skills and effective communication including an openness to diverse input and feedback

  • Ability to travel

The base pay range for this role is $130,600 - $195,900. (Actual range is higher for the following office locations: Denver, CO and Chicago, IL – 5%, Seattle, WA, and Portland, OR – 10%, Washington, D.C. – 12.5%).

Base pay is positioned within the range based on several factors including an individual’s knowledge, skills, and experience, with consideration given to internal equity.  This position is eligible for Mortenson’s incentive plan.
