Divergent is a technology company that has architected, invented, built, and commercialized an end-to-end factory system called the Divergent Adaptive Production System (DAPS™) that comprehensively uses machine learning to optimally engineer, additively manufacture, and flexibly assemble complex integrated vehicle structures and subsystems. Products created using DAPS are superior in performance, lower in cost, rapidly customizable to meet mission and customer-specific requirements, faster to market, and scalable on demand to high volume production. Divergent is a qualified Tier 1 supplier to global automotive OEMs, and Divergent is now expanding to support mission critical needs in the Aerospace and Defense sector. Join us to be a part of this transformative journey, where your impact will shape the future of technology and production.

Purpose

At Divergent, we are transforming how complex products—like performance vehicles and aerospace components—are designed, engineered, and manufactured. But our ability to scale isn’t just about technology. It’s about people.

We’re building a next-generation internal learning academy to rapidly onboard, upskill, and reskill a diverse workforce—ranging from hands-on technicians to world-class engineers. This is not a traditional L&D department; it’s a design lab for experiential learning at scale. We are seeking a graduate-level Organizational Psychology Intern to help shape the foundation of this effort through research-driven instructional strategy, curriculum design, and culture-aligned learning programs.

This role sits at the intersection of applied behavioral science, industrial psychology, and learning innovation. You’ll collaborate across People Ops, Engineering, and Production to design impactful learning experiences—and support our performance culture grounded in clarity, alignment, real-time feedback, empowerment, and shared accountability. No annual reviews. No generic training. Just rigorous growth at speed.

The Role

  • Design for Impact: Collaborate on learning architectures for technician and engineering roles using modern instructional models (e.g., experiential learning, microlearning, spaced repetition, adaptive platforms).
  • Explore Emerging Modalities: Research and recommend how AI, simulations, AR/VR, and other frontier technologies can enhance skills transfer and engagement in high-performance settings.
  • Research-Driven Innovation: Conduct literature reviews and internal needs assessments to surface best-in-class pedagogical approaches tailored to Divergent’s operating tempo.
  • Measurement & Diagnostics: Develop learning success metrics tied to real-world performance. Analyze data on behavior change, engagement, and the effectiveness of learning interventions.
  • Performance Culture Enablement: Support integration of learning into our real-time performance feedback system—no annual reviews, just ongoing coaching, shared expectations, and visible progress.
  • Cultural Intelligence: Assist with employee engagement diagnostics (e.g., surveys, interviews, focus groups) to generate insights into team dynamics, communication patterns, and psychological safety.
  • Change Enablement: Help craft communication and change management strategies to support new systems, cultural rituals, and career pathway clarity.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with technical teams to embed learning into the flow of work—not layered on top of it.

Basic Qualifications

  • Ability to lawfully access information and technology that is subject to US export controls
  • Master’s or PhD candidate in Industrial-Organizational Psychology, Organizational Behavior, Learning Sciences, or a related field
  • Deep curiosity about the intersection of technology and human learning—especially AI tutors, immersive simulations, or adaptive learning environments
  • Familiarity with instructional design principles, learning sciences, and behavioral science frameworks
  • Strong research and analytical skills—quantitative and qualitative
  • Excellent communication and synthesis skills, with the ability to turn data into action
  • Comfort working in fast-paced, ambiguous, and high-autonomy environments

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with learning platforms (e.g., Articulate, Kahoot, CultureAmp, Qualtrics)
  • Exposure to tools or platforms that leverage AI, AR/VR, or simulation in learning environments
  • Familiarity with job task analysis or capability mapping for technical roles
  • Data fluency in SPSS, R, or Python
  • Prior experience in organizational development, learning design, or People Ops analytics

Why This Internship?

  • This isn’t a legacy People Ops internship. It’s a chance to design how a pioneering manufacturing-tech company empowers its people to grow. You’ll help build a system that replaces bureaucracy with clarity, compliance with commitment, and passive content with active mastery.
  • You’ll have the freedom to prototype with new tools—from AI-powered learning journeys to immersive simulations—as you help us scale real-world capability building at the speed of innovation.
