About the Department
Performs a variety of routine Human Resources duties. Supports a designated group of employees and supervisors with their HR needs. Recruits applicants for positions and facilitates selection procedures. Utilizes Human Resource Information System, applicant tracking system, and electronic filing system, for processing employee data and record keeping. Provides accurate and timely information, resources, and training to college employees. Creates, revises, and maintains a current library and archive history of job descriptions, job titles, College policies, and various employment records. Supports or coordinates employee engagement functions and activities.
Position Duties
- Develops and maintains effective working relationships with College leaders, supervisors, and employees.
- Advises supervisors on human capital-related matters and provides information and guidance concerning HR policies and best practices; escalates issues to directors and senior leadership, as necessary.
- Creates and manages job requisitions within the applicant tracking system (ATS).
- Creates and advertises job postings to ATS and third party recruiting websites.
- Corresponds with applicants as necessary, screens initial applications.
- Provides hiring supervisors and screening committees with guidance for compliance through the selection process and represents HR in interviews.
- Analyzes compensation data and prepares compensation recommendations.
- Performs and submits applicant background checks and reviews results for employment eligibility.
- Extends verbal and written offers of employment to selected candidates.
- Completes tasks related to new employee onboarding by compiling and storing employment-related documentation.
- Provides new and current employees with an explanation of benefits and instruct them on enrollment procedures.
- Assists with employee relations functions including employee assistance, investigations, assisting supervisors in corrective action and discipline; provides technical assistance to develop performance management documents, employee improvement plans, or disciplinary action.
- Assists in the employee evaluation process as needed.
- Facilitates and assists in resolving employee issues and concerns.
- Supports employee engagement initiatives related to culture, morale, equity, diversity, and inclusion.
- Serves on institutional committees as needed.
- Assists in ensuring legal compliance of various federal and state laws and regulations including facilitating American’s with Disabilities Act (ADA) reasonable accommodations.
- Facilitates requests and applications for FMLA and completes necessary forms.
- Completes workers compensation reports and follows-up with employee injuries, work restrictions, coordinates return-to-work, and updates OSHA 300.
- Organizes and coordinates College-wide staff meetings and open enrollment meetings.
- Assists in identifying employee training needs, developing, and presenting trainings including new employee orientation.
- Prepares HR-related reports such as departmental, institutional, governmental, and salary surveys or other reports as necessary.
- Assists with other HR-related projects and initiatives as necessary.
- Maintains appropriate and strict confidentiality.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor degree in Human Resources, or closely related field of study, with three (3) years prior HR experience.
- An equivalent combination of education, training, and proven work experience in a related field may qualify for this requirement.
- Requires strong customer service skills and proven interpersonal skills, with ability to work effectively with diverse groups and individuals.
- Must have knowledge of the principles and practices of modern office management and be able to uphold strict confidentiality.
Other Qualifications
- Prefer candidates with experience performing HR related duties such as recruitment, compensation, employee benefits, employee relations, documentation, and records maintenance in human resource information systems (HRIS).
- Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) Certified Professional (CP) certification.
- Must have strong written and verbal communication skills, with experience in writing professional documents and correspondence.
- Proficiency in working knowledge of spreadsheets, word processing, Human Resource Information Systems, records maintenance, and time and attendance systems.
