Job Title: Staff Accountant


Department: Administration


Reports To: Controller

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt, Full-time, 40 hrs/week

Compensation: $32.00 to $35.00/hr 



 

 

 

 

Summary: The Staff Accountant is responsible for ensuring the accuracy and integrity of the financial records through diligent execution of the monthly close process, account reconciliations, and general ledger maintenance. This role is also critical for managing all financial aspects of the organization's grants, including tracking expenditures, generating reports, and ensuring compliance with all funder requirements. 

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following.  Other duties may be assigned.

  • Manage and order bus tickets, gift cards, mattresses, vouchers for programs. Assist with billing. 
  • Assist with the monthly, quarterly, and annual closing processes to ensure financial statements are prepared in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Investigate and resolve any discrepancies identified during the reconciliation process.
  • Prepare all necessary information to file 1099s for corporation.
  • Ensure accurate and organized financial documentation and files, both electronic and physical, are maintained
  • Maintains data and timely prepares reporting for internal and external purposes: Business taxes, census, grants and programs among others.
  • Support the Senior Accountant and the Controller in Grant and Annual Audits.
  • Maintains the timeliness and integrity of the General Ledger by interpreting and properly classifying accounting events within GAAP guidelines and the policies of the organization with the purpose of generating monthly and Year End financial Statements.
  • Assess the reliability and accuracy of internally and externally received documents.
  • Ensures accuracy of all processed information; A/P, A/R: Daily audit of system revenue postings, DSR, etc.  
  • Assists in the completion of special projects as delegated by immediate manager.
  • Track all grant-related revenue and expenses against project budgets, ensuring all costs are allowable, allocable, and properly documented.
  • Prepare all required financial grant reports, supporting documents as requested 
  • Assist in the grant closeout process, including final reconciliations and reporting. 
  • Collaborate with other departments to ensure timely and accurate coding of all grants and project expenses. 
  • Work with the proper attitude that exemplifies the Society’s Statement of Values. 


Qualifications:

 

  • Experience: 3–5 years of progressive accounting experience, with specific experience in grants or fund accounting preferred.
  • Technical Skills: Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel (e.g., pivot tables,) and experience with ADP and accounting software (e.g., Quickbooks, Blackbaud).
  • Knowledge: Solid understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and experience with federal grant compliance (e.g., Uniform Guidance).
  • Abilities: Excellent organizational and time management skills, strong attention to detail, and a high level of integrity. 

Education

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
