The Assistant Vice President (AVP) of Financial Wellness and Advocacy is a senior leader dedicated to advancing Unitus’ mission of financial well-being for all. This role oversees the design and execution of innovative financial wellness strategies that support members, employees, and the community while aligning with business goals. The AVP builds strategic partnerships, leads consumer education and advocacy efforts, and ensures that financial wellness is embedded across the organization to drive measurable community impact. This role also involves participating in the strategic planning processes, translating high-level strategies into actionable business plans, budgets, and operational frameworks to ensure financial empowerment for all those we serve to ensure commitment for unparalleled service – the kind that creates the Unitus difference. Responsibilities:

  • Lead the development, integration, and execution of Unitus’ comprehensive financial wellness strategy for members, employees, and the community. Oversee financial education programming, financial coaching, digital resources, and curriculum design. Collaborate with a wide variety of departments and product teams to drive program and product development initiatives that align with the financial wellness roadmap, ensuring the delivery of member- focused solutions. Manage vendor relationships and ensure alignment with the credit union’s strategic plan and financial wellness ecosystem. Assess and report on the effectiveness of financial education and wellness activities to drive continuous improvement and broader outreach efforts. Promote best practices and thought leadership by submitting industry award applications and sharing outcomes externally.
  • Build and strengthen partnerships with schools, nonprofits, community groups, and business partners. Represent the Credit Union in the community, promoting financial wellness as a core mission through active participation in outreach and community programs. Support the organization’s foundation and other philanthropic initiatives that expand access to financial education and resources. Leverage partnerships to expand reach and pilot innovative financial wellness programs.
  • Provide direction and support to the Financial Education Specialists, ensuring individual growth and collective success. Translate organizational and departmental goals into clear team objectives, helping the team prioritize efforts and track progress. Oversee program delivery and initiatives, balancing direct involvement with delegation to ensure the team has the tools, guidance, and support. Partner with People and Culture and management on employee matters as appropriate.
  • Lead advocacy initiatives aligned with Unitus values. Partner with key advocacy groups and associations to elevate issues impacting financial access, consumer education, and larger legislative initiatives that Unitus supports. Represent Unitus in leadership roles on councils and associations influencing financial wellness and consumer advocacy.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Education, Finance, or Economics or equivalent work experience. 
  • Minimum of 8 years of experience in the financial industry with an emphasis in leading financial education and coaching programs focused on financial wellness principles, community outreach, and program and product development.
  • Financial Counseling Certification credentials are required or obtained within 6 months of hire.
  • Experience applying educational principles in a formal education-based role preferred.
