Position: Laundry Attendant/ Bed Steamer New Start Trainee
Location: Boccardo Reception Center (2011 Little Orchard Street, San Jose)
Employment Type: Seasonal, Part Time, Non-Exempt
Employment Term: October 2025 through April 2026
Compensation: $27.98/Hourly

POSITION OVERVIEW
The New Start program is a Training Compensation Program operated by HomeFirst. This program functions as a job readiness, hands-on work experience, and training program designed to help program trainee’s move toward long-term employment. You will participate in 4 hours per day, 5 days per week of mixed classroom learning and work-based activities for six months.
This program is seasonal and part-time. Your employment will end automatically when you graduate from the program. No long-term or permanent employment will be offered by HomeFirst as a result of this program.
REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS
This role reports to the Shift Supervisor for the New Start Program.
PRIMARY RESPONSIIBLITIES
Laundry Attendant/
-
- Safely operate the washing and drying machines and check for any hazards or malfunctions prior to starting them.
- Correctly fold blankets and linens after drying so that they are presentable to guests.
- Provide blankets to guests during linen exchanges.
- Be able to count and log the correct number of blankets and linens and sort them into the correct box for each site.
- Monitor supply levels of items needed such as detergent, plastic bags and notify HomeFirst staff when they need to be restocked.
- Notify staff when equipment is malfunctioning or damaged immediately.
- Keep the laundry room clean, organized, and free from any safety hazards.
- Understand the capacity limits of each machine and not overload them.
Bed Steaming

- Responsible for the treatment of mattresses and frames.

Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS (YOU HAVE)
- Entry Level position
- Ability to sort, wash, dry and fold linens
- High school diploma or GED (preferred)
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to stand and move for extended periods
- Ability to regularly lift up to 25 lbs.
- Able to bend, stoop, lift, and reach repeatedly throughout shift
