MatPel Builders is a premier general contractor based in the San Francisco Bay Area. We specialize in architecturally significant, high-end residential construction, including modern custom homes, contemporary estates, historic renovations, complex remodels, and retrofit projects.


We are seeking an experienced General Superintendent to lead field operations across multiple high-end residential projects. This role provides direct supervision of Superintendents, Foremen, and field staff, ensuring projects are executed safely, on schedule, within budget, and to the highest standards of quality and client service. The General Superintendent works closely with Project Managers and senior leadership, serving as the key field executive responsible for coordination, risk management, and continuous improvement.


Key Responsibilities

  • Lead, mentor, and oversee Superintendents, Foremen, and field staff across multiple jobsites.
  • Partner with Project Managers to ensure seamless coordination and project delivery.
  • Conduct regular jobsite visits to monitor progress, conditions, and quality.
  • Enforce safety standards and compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Establish and maintain production standards for self-performed work.
  • Recruit, train, evaluate, and mentor field personnel.
  • Manage weekly labor assignments and field resource allocation.
  • Investigate jobsite incidents and claims, implementing corrective measures as needed.
  • Oversee field-level cost control efforts, including labor utilization, subcontractor performance, change orders, and waste reduction.
  • Proactively identify project risks, site challenges, and design conflicts; implement mitigation strategies.
  • Foster a culture of trust, accountability, and open communication across teams.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, design partners, and subcontractors.
  • Lead with integrity, promoting a culture of trust, respect, and client-focused excellence.


Qualifications

  • 20+ years of high-end residential construction experience.
  • Completion of at least five high-end projects in the role of Superintendent.
  • High school diploma required; degree or coursework in Construction Management preferred.
  • Valid California driver’s license with clean record and reliable transportation (truck or van preferred).
  • Advanced technical knowledge across all trades and phases of construction.
  • Strong understanding of industry standards, processes, and best practices.
  • Familiarity with construction management software (Procore, Bluebeam, scheduling tools).
  • Demonstrated track record of cost control, production optimization, and schedule performance.
  • Excellent leadership and team-building skills, with the ability to mentor and motivate others.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills, with experience managing multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Highly developed problem-solving abilities and attention to detail.
  • Clear and effective communication and presentation skills.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction plans.
  • Commitment to safety protocols and use of personal protective equipment.


Physical Requirements

  • Lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
  • Stand, walk, climb, crouch, crawl, and navigate stairs/ladders.
  • Work in varying weather and environmental conditions.
  • Handle tools and materials with manual dexterity.
  • Tolerate exposure to noise, dust, fumes, and airborne particles.
