The Prince George’s County Planning Department provides land use planning for the physical development of Prince George’s County, Maryland. As the second most populous county in Maryland, Prince George’s has a population of approximately 900,000 residents with 15 Metro Rail Stations and is home to The University of Maryland at College Park, WMATA Headquarters, UMD Capital Region Medical Center, NASA Goddard Space Flight Center, and Joint Base Andrews. Prince George’s County is also home to National Harbor.

The Prince George’s County Planning Department, part of the Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission, is seeking a talented individual to support its facilities team.

Position Duties

Essential Skills and Responsibilities:

  • Set up and dismantle event spaces, including tables, chairs, podiums, staging, tents, signage, and other event-related equipment.
  • Ensure layout is completed per event diagrams or instructions.
  • Assist with basic AV setup, including microphones, speakers, and video monitors as needed.
  • Move and rearrange furniture, such as desks, chairs, cabinets, and cubicle partitions.
  • Move podiums, shelving, storage items and other moderately heavy equipment between rooms or buildings.
  • Assist with office reconfigurations and workspace setups.
  • Assemble new chairs, tables and other moderately heavy items.
  • Hang items including artwork, bulletin boards, signage, whiteboards, and monitors.
  • Use basic hand tools to install wall-mounted equipment securely and safely.
  • Drive company/facility fleet vehicles to maintenance locations as scheduled.
  • Relocate fleet vehicles between facilities and designated lots.
  • Ensure vehicles are regularly gassed, cleaned, started, and maintained in good operating condition.
  • Place and remove event or directional signage in parking areas or facility entrances.
  • Assist with traffic flow setup during events, if necessary.
  • Ensure walkie-talkies and other rechargeable safety equipment are charged and functional.
  • Perform routine checks on safety-related tools and report any issues to supervisors.
  • Assist with other maintenance or other tasks as assigned.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Respond to on-demand requests for room setups, moves, or support during events.
  • Maintain cleanliness and orderliness of storage and staging areas.
  • Communicate any issues with equipment, safety hazards, or supply shortages.

Worker Characteristics: 

  1. Routine work procedures, steps, and tasks to set up and dismantle event equipment and other requirements in this class of work;
  2. Commission organization, policies and procedures;
  3. Perform manual work requiring physical effort and dexterity;
  4. Skill in problem solving to select, organize and logically process relevant information (verbal, numerical, or abstract) to solve a problem;
  5. Communication skill to understand verbal and written information (including facts, descriptions, and ideas) and to express such information so that others will understand.
    • Examples include reading and writing routine materials and records.
    • Interpersonal skills to interact effectively and establish and maintain effective working relationships as a member of a team.

Minimum Qualifications

  1. Pass Commission medical examination.
  2. 17 years of age.

Preferred Qualifications
  1. Must have a Valid Driver’s License and clean driving record
  2. Must be able to take and pass MNCPPC’s Defensive Driving Exam.

NOTE: This position is Union-represented.

Working Conditions: Primarily work inside, but may work outside on occasion or as assigned. May work weekends, evenings and holidays. Occasionally exposed to inclement weather. Ability to occasionally lift up to 100 pounds and regularly up to 50 pounds. May be subject to various job demands such as high volume of work and tight deadlines.

The M-NCPPC offers a competitive annual salary range of $33,896 to $63,064 (salary is commensurate with education and experience) at the Facilities/Events Maintenance Worker level with excellent benefits including generous leave, extensive health coverage, deferred compensation plan, and employee pension plan.

The Prince George’s County Planning Department is conveniently located in Largo, Maryland, near Metro and I-495.

Core hours are 8:30 am to 5:00 pm daily but may be adjusted to meet the needs of the Department.
