The role
North Peace Regional Airport has an opening for the position of Seasonal Airport Technician 1 (APT1). Reporting to the Manager of Operations and Emergency Services, the successful candidates will become part of the airport maintenance and emergency response team, working on a rotational shift basis to cover the airport’s 24/7 operation. This role is a temporary, full-time union position covered by a Collective Agreement. The hourly rate is $37.23.
:Key responsibilities
- Conducts general maintenance of the airfield, airport grounds and associated buildings, including snow and ice control and removal.
- Provides hands-on maintenance and repair for airport vehicles and equipment, and the airport terminal.
- Follows the preventive maintenance program to avoid failure of equipment by early detection of malfunction.
- Completes routine preventive maintenance work tasks (e.g. lubrication).
- Conducts inspections to assess equipment and facilities; prepares corrective action reports.
- Takes steps to close out corrective actions, in consultation with supervisor as needed.
- Assists with resolving airport operational issues.
- Operates various pieces of equipment, including heavy machinery.
- Participates in the airport’s safety-first culture and in the airport security program.
- In the event of an emergency, responds as directed by Incident Command.
- Other duties and responsibilities commensurate with the position may be assigned.
About you
- Minimum 2 years’ work experience in general maintenance, with knowledge of safety rules and regulations.
- Skilled at interpreting instructions and solving technical or operational problems.
- Track record of sound judgement in selecting the appropriate course of action when faced with equipment or facility problems.
- Completion of secondary school education; good written and verbal communication skills.
- Holds or able to hold a valid Class 3 Driver’s License with Airbrake Endorsement, and able to obtain a restricted radio operator’s license.
- A PAL (possession & acquisitions licence) and a CORE (conservation outdoor recreation education), or ability to obtain same.
- Experience in summer and winter field maintenance activities a strong asset.
