Job Summary

The Nuclear Fleet Performance Improvement Consultant (Radiological Protection and Chemistry) is responsible to provide oversight, governance and leadership to drive station performance in the assigned functional area and is accountable to provide recommendations that will positively affect performance outcomes and improved station efficiencies and reliability. Position reports to the Manager Radiological Protection and Chemistry (CFAM).

 

The Nuclear Fleet Performance Improvement Consultant provides corporate level radiological protection (RP) and chemistry support to nuclear stations. Assists in the development of fleet and station RP and chemistry programs and procedures and advises senior management on significant radiological protection related issues.  Responsibilities include systematically overseeing and routinely evaluating RP department management performance including evaluation of leader performance. Routine responsibilities also include frequent site visits, participation in department self-evaluation meetings, and observations of department performance both in plant and in training. The Nuclear Fleet Performance Improvement Consultant (RP) is responsible for the review and analysis of data resulting in recommendations to better integrate plant processes, procedures, department protocols and practices, to achieve high levels of performance. Maintains frequent communication with the RP/Chemistry Manager Peer Group, station leaders, corporate leaders and executives to influence and establish “fleet first” actions and  initiatives. Represents Dominion through frequent interaction with industry groups such as INPO, EPRI, NEI providing information on industry best practices to the RP and Chemistry Peer groups.  Reviews and analyzes RP and Chemistry KPI's, data, and assists in the development of RP and Chemistry performance summaries and score cards for each station.

 

In addition to the oversight of RP and Chemistry, the position interacts frequently with nuclear fleet and company environmental professionals to monitor and trend fleet environmental performance. The Nuclear Fleet Performance Improvement Consultant (RP) participates actively in Dominion Energy Environmental and Sustainability working groups to ensure the Dominion Nuclear fleet incorporates company and industry best practices.

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Experience

The knowledge, skills, abilities and experiences that are required for entry into this job include the following:

 

  • Minimum 7- 8 years of experience in the assigned functional area of Radiological Protection (with preferred Bachelor's degree).  In lieu of preferred related Bachelor's degree, may substitute related Associate's degree and 9+ years of the specified leadership experience or High School diploma/GED and 11+ years of the specified leadership experience.  
  • Proficiency in all areas of radiological protection.
  • Experience in a wide variety of RP operational and technical programs.  
  • Demonstrated leadership skills including ability to manage and assess performance of RP personnel.
  • General knowledge of environmental effluents and discharge requirements.
  • Considered an expert in the functional area of RP
  • Must be an experienced, knowledgeable, and energetic professional capable of leading from a position of support and influence.
  • Must work closely with all levels of the organization and Peer Group Governance structure.
  • Working knowledge of the nuclear industry, processes and procedures.
  • Strong organizational, project management, and communications skills.
  • Ability to review, analyze and compile complex technical information and develop recommendations for management.
  • Solid team player with an ability to work with a diverse group of individuals. 

 

A preferred candidate will also possess:

  • 5+ years of leadership/management experience 
  • Knowledgeable of Dominion Energy's Fleet RP processes and procedures

Education Requirements

Degree or an equivalent combination of education and demonstrated related experience may be accepted in lieu of preferred level of education:

Bachelor

Preferred Disciplines:  Business Administration, Engineering, Science

Other disciplines may be substituted for the preferred discipline(s) listed above.

Licenses, Certifications, or Quals Description

Prefer NRC SRO license (hold or have held)
