Astrion is seeking a Spaceflight Vehicle Propulsion Engineer to join our team in support of NASA's pursuit of deep space explorationIn this role, you will Serve as a Propulsion Engineer, providing support for the overall technical development, certification, and verification of the integrated propulsion systems of multiple ISS visiting vehicles, including USDV and new commercial resupply services.

 

Basic Qualifications

  • Requires a minimum of a bachelor’s degree in Engineering and normally possess 5-10 years of related
    experience.
  • Spacecraft propulsion experience with a focus on fluid and mechanical aspects
  • Experience in the design, assembly, testing, certification, and operation of space propulsion systems and components
  • Experience coordinating space propulsion systems requirements verification and validation between multiple
    organizations
  • Basic knowledge of commonly used concepts, practices, and procedures in the field, such as mechanical system design,
    engineering drawings and sketches, material selection, testing, and office software
  • Excellent organizational skills, oral and written communication skills, and the ability to coordinate support from a wide
    range of technical disciplines
  • Confident in knowledge and experience, and able to discuss propulsion topics with subject matter experts
  • Experience with NASA JSC Flight Hardware Life Cycle, Certification, and Engineering processes
  • Knowledge and work experience in a Systems Engineering role in a NASA, DoD, or Aerospace environment
  • Experience with requirements management, verification and validation definition and execution, design trades, risk
    analysis, and system analysis of space hardware
  • Ability to prepare written documents and to verbally present at various high level meetings

Preferred Qualifications

  • Familiar with JSC organizations, processes, and procedures
  • Experience with NASA JSC Flight Hardware Life Cycle, Certification, and Engineering processes
  • Experience with requirements management, verification and validation definition and execution, design trades, risk
    analysis, and system analysis of space hardware
  • Working knowledge of NASA, JSC, and ISS standard practices and requirements including safety, fault tolerance, and
    unique disciplines
  • Familiarity with NASA/JSC documentation databases and share point sites as well as typical systems engineering
    software products
  • Experience in technical or team leadership roles

What You’ll Do

  • Work with a team of engineers who work within the NASA project office, US Prime Contractors, and International
    Partners, to assess the design and safe operation of propulsion systems for manned vehicles
  • Ensure the technical certification of multiple propulsion systems. This entails working with a team whose overall
    responsibility is to articulate, define, and perform integrated technical analysis, perform rigorous oversight of propulsion
    components within the system, and review component test and verification plans
  • Actively support the creation, review, and closure of hazard reports, integrated hazard analysis, component variances,
    and waiver rationale
  • This role also entails the creation of program risk packages, the formulation of risk mitigation proposals, and if necessary,
    the formation and elevation of dissenting opinion packages in support of the program chief engineer
  • In addition to the technical responsibilities, a critical component of this position is to foresee, strategize, and petition for
    the staffing and budget needs of the team. This includes collaborating with the ISS Program Office and the division budget
    office to develop and implement cost phasing plans for the team to subsequently execute over the course of each fiscal
    year
  • Position is responsible for the risk mitigation tasks and strategic project management by identifying potential areas of
    risk mitigation for the visiting vehicles propulsion system and then formulating the details of, advocating for, and ultimately
    executing these risk mitigation efforts
