We are seeking a Facility Supervisor – Wastewater for our East Chicago, IN location who is compliance-focused and technically experienced. This position will lead a team of hourly wastewater operators and ensure compliance with all IDEM and EPA regulations. You must be licensed, detail-oriented, and committed to operational excellence in a high-priority treatment environment.

Responsibilities

  • Ensures Health and Safety is the number one priority by complying with all safe work practices, policies, and procedures
  • Supervises daily operation of wastewater systems including activated sludge and nutrient removal processes
  • Oversees a team of four union hourly operators and ensures proper scheduling and accountability
  • Monitors and responds to SCADA system data (interface only) to optimize plant performance
  • Ensures accurate reporting and recordkeeping in compliance with IDEM and EPA regulations
  • Leads incident response for process upsets and participates in on-call/emergency response rotation
  • Collaborates with other departments to support integrated plant operations and environmental compliance
  • Promotes a performance-driven, safety-conscious, and compliant work culture

Qualifications

What does it take to be a part of our Safety-Kleen team?

  • Indiana Class IV Wastewater Operator License (required)
  • 5–6 years of hands-on wastewater operations experience (industrial or municipal)
  • 3+ years of leadership or supervisory experience
  • Strong understanding of IDEM, EPA, and Clean Water Act compliance requirements
  • Ability to interpret SCADA output and plant operations data (no programming required)
  • Performance management and conflict resolution skills in a union environment
  • Strong written and verbal communication
  • Must be computer savvy – Office 365 and plant compliance systems
  • Willingness to participate in on-call coverage and emergency response
