The London Borough of Harrow is seeking a strategic and authoritative leader for the role of Principal Occupational Therapist. This pivotal position provides strategic professional leadership and technical oversight for all occupational therapy services across both Adult Social Care and Children's Services. You will act as the lead advisor to the council on OT practice, driving service quality, innovation, and strategic transformation.
You will ensure the delivery of high-quality, person-centred, strengths-based practice that champions the independence and well-being of Harrow's residents. A key element is leading the professional support and strategic development of all Occupational Therapists, Assistants, and Trusted Assessors, ensuring the workforce is equipped to manage complex casework related to physical disabilities, equipment, and adaptations.
This role involves providing expert professional advice to senior management, care management teams, and external partners. You will play a strategic role in the commissioning of adaptation and equipment services, ensuring efficiency, statutory compliance, and placing the welfare of citizens at the heart of service delivery and decision-making.
About you:The successful candidate will:
- Hold an Occupational Therapy qualification.
- Have registration with HCPC.
- Have extensive knowledge of the legislation/policies that relate to the Adults agenda, to a level that can advise other less experienced staff.
- Have significant experience in carrying out occupational therapy responsibilities to advise and guide less experienced staff.
- Have experience of providing professional supervision to Occupational Therapists, OTA’s and Trusted Assessors or students.
- The ability to carry out specialised training as required.
- Have the ability to present complex cases to panel with good clear outcomes.
- The ability to write reports.
- Willingness and ability to work occasional unsocial hours.
