Position Summary
The Assistant Chief of Police plays a critical leadership role within Tarian Group’s Company Police Department, with a specific focus on overseeing healthcare-related law enforcement operations.
This position provides direct support to the Chief of Police in the daily management of department operations, strategic planning, officer performance, and client relations—particularly across Tarian's healthcare clients.
The role ensures the delivery of high-quality, client-focused police services and operational excellence in regulated and sensitive environments.
This leader also serves as Acting Chief when required and is instrumental in advancing the organization’s core values of integrity, accountability, service, and innovation.
Key Responsibilities
● Serve as a key advisor to the Chief of Police on policy, training, technology, equipment, and personnel deployment—especially in healthcare environments.
● Provide timely briefings on investigations, staffing needs, performance trends, and sensitive incidents.
● Directly oversee field operations across multiple client locations with a primary focus on healthcare facilities. Act as department head in the absence of the Chief of Police.
● Collaborate with Human Resources on personnel issues, including workers’ compensation, safety, and compliance.
● Assist in developing and executing departmental goals, staffing plans, compliance initiatives, and strategic performance benchmarks. Lead initiatives to improve service quality, officer preparedness, and alignment with healthcare safety regulations.
● Build and maintain strong client partnerships, particularly with hospital administrators, compliance leads, and public safety partners.
● Address feedback, inquiries, and complaints with professionalism and discretion.
● Travel regionally (up to 25%) to support site inspections, leadership meetings, client relations, and training support.
● Perform additional duties as assigned by executive leadership.

Responsibilities:Minimum Qualifications
Education/Experience:
● Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice, Public Administration, or a related field preferred.
● Equivalent law enforcement training and professional experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
Law Enforcement Experience:
● Minimum of 5 years of command-level law enforcement leadership, with demonstrated experience overseeing multiple teams or locations.
● Experience in healthcare or regulated environments strongly preferred.
Certifications:
● Valid Basic Law Enforcement Training (B.L.E.T.) certification.
● Must meet current North Carolina Criminal Justice Training & Standards Commission requirements.
Licensure:
● Must hold or be able to obtain a valid North Carolina driver’s license.
Background Requirements:
● Must successfully pass background investigation, physical exam, psychological evaluation, and drug screening. No felony convictions, domestic violence, or DUI/serious misdemeanor charges within the last 5 years.
Leadership & Competency Requirements:
● Comprehensive knowledge of modern law enforcement operations, community policing, and incident command structures.
● Proven ability to lead teams, manage sensitive personnel issues, and enforce accountability.
● Strong communication and diplomacy skills when interfacing with healthcare executives, patients, and external agencies.
● Ability to analyze operational risk and implement mitigation strategies in high-liability environments. Proficiency in reporting systems, administrative protocols, and data-informed decision-making.
● Demonstrated ability to thrive in high-pressure, dynamic, and multi-location environments.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS & WORK ENVIRONMENT
- Full-time, exempt position with variable hours based on operational needs.
- Evening, weekend, or emergency response duties may be required.
- Regional travel required approximately 25% of the time.
- May be exposed to high-stress scenarios, healthcare settings, and field operations.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee must be able to sit, stand, and walk for variable amounts of time throughout an assigned shift; use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; occasionally stoop, kneel, or crouch. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move objects 25 pounds or more. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Frequently engages in mental concentration, analysis, and formulation.
