You will be attached to the Maizières Longs research center in Process Longs department which is composed by 10 researchers working on development and deploying Process solutions for ArcelorMittal.
Your role
Your mission will focus on supporting digitalization initiatives in casting, rolling, and downstream processes for Long Products perimeter. Therefore, you will work closely with internal customers, the business units and Global R&D specialists.
Through smarter process control and advanced instrumentation, you will help align operational excellence with sustainability goals, contributing to ArcelorMittal’s strategy to decarbonize steel production and reduce its environmental footprint.
The main activities will be:
- Define and develop vision and control systems in collaboration with Global R&D specialists.
- Support Long Carbon plants in optimizing production routes, solving quality and productivity issues, and assisting in the development of new products through instrumentation and data analysis.
- Continuously improve and optimize existing instrumentation systems used by the Process Longs department.
- Develop and integrate new sensors, and ensure the implementation of control systems to operate them effectively.
- Lead the deployment of sensors and control systems through regular international business trips to Long Carbon plants.
- Drive innovation and knowledge development in instrumentation through benchmarking, partnerships, and collaborative projects.
- Manage medium- and long-term projects (12+ months) within your scope of expertise.
This position requires close collaboration with production plants, strong responsiveness, and a clear sense of priorities to effectively address urgent issues. You will work in multidisciplinary and multicultural teams, requiring effective communication and interpersonal skills. The role also involves regular international travel to support the deployment and optimization of systems across Long Carbon plants worldwide.
Your profile
- You hold a Master's degree or a PhD in Physical Measurements and Instrumentation.
- A first experience in a production plant, specifically in the field of sensor development, sensor programming, sensor implementation and maintenance would be an asset.
- You are fluent in English.
- You are a team player with good communication skills, rigor and autonomy.
- You have the willingness to learn constantly, you are curious.
