International Arbitration Lawyer (NQ to 2 years PQE)

Brief

We are looking to recruit an International Arbitration Lawyer between NQ to 2 years PQE to join the international arbitration team in our London office.

Our global international arbitration team actively manages around 170 international arbitrations, with many involving sums in excess of $1 billion, and have acted in arbitrations involving parties in more than 80 countries, across 6 continents.

The International Arbitration practice comprises lawyers in a number of disciplines across the UK, Europe, the Middle East, South Africa and Asia Pacific.

  • We act for over half of the UK's top 50 contractors, a large number of the top contractors worldwide and an impressive range of private and public sector clients.
  • Multiple publicly listed European companies. 

Work highlights

  • Represent an investor in a pending €2+ billion ICSID arbitration under the Energy Charter Treaty (ECT). 
  • Represent a European publicly listed company and its subsidiary in a €500 million investment arbitration that challenges the termination of sunset clauses in intra-EU bilateral investment treaties (intra-EU BITs).
  • Represent a pan-African financial institution in LCIA arbitration, securing full award against defaulting borrowers. Obtained freezing orders in England and multiple jurisdictions. Monitored parallel litigation across Africa to support enforcement and protect client interests.

The Candidate Required

The successful candidate will:

  1. ideally have gained experience in investor-state arbitration (also known as investment treaty arbitration).
  2. worked on investor-state arbitrations brought under bilateral or multilateral investment treaties under one of the following arbitration rules: ICSID Arbitration Rules, ICSID Additional Facility Rules, UNCITRAL Arbitration Rules, Stockholm Chambers of Commerce Rules and others.
  3. have international commercial arbitration experience, including arbitrations under the ICC or LCIA Arbitration Rules.
  4. be a team player, able to establish effective working relationships with colleagues in an agile environment.
  5. be technically strong and able to exercise good commercial judgment.
  6. have the interpersonal skills necessary to develop effective working relationships with clients, market contacts and the wider firm.

The successful candidate can expect to be involved in the team’s client and market-facing activities. This will include client meetings, training sessions and networking and working routinely with colleagues across the wider arbitration team.
