Job Summary:

The Printing Press First Helper will drive business value by assisting the Printing Press Operators in producing products, organizing and monitoring workflow, complying with all safety, quality, and housekeeping standards. Primary duties include, but aren’t limited to, running the unwind station of the print press, assisting with changeovers, maintaining ink supplies at the press, rethreading the press, and training to be the back-up operator to cover absences. This is an advancement-oriented position with a long-term goal of becoming a Flexographic Printing Press Operator.

Job Duties:

  • Assist Printing Press Operators by reading and following work instructions, setting up machines, and supporting production workflow.
  • Verify raw materials against work orders and inspect rolls for defects before installation.
  • Operate and monitor the unwind station, including auto-splicer, roll stop settings, and safety devices.
  • Install and maintain sleeves, inks, and related press supplies according to job specifications.
  • Perform ink handling, mixing, cleanup, and replenishment tasks press-side.
  • Support changeovers and rethreading of the press as directed by operators.
  • Perform routine and preventative maintenance tasks on press equipment and peripherals.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work area in compliance with safety, quality, and housekeeping standards.
  • Train to serve as a backup Printing Press Operator to cover absences.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support production goals.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to lift up to 70 lbs
  • Stand for an entire 8-hour shift
  • Work with physical stamina and strength.

Qualifications


Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; technical degree preferred.

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Working knowledge of high-speed machinery, production procedures, and measurement tools.
  • Strong attention to detail, analytical skills, teamwork, and communication abilities.
  • Ability to lift up to 70 lbs, stand for a full 8-hour shift, and maintain physical stamina and strength.
  • Ability to read instruction manuals and follow preventative maintenance programs.
  • Commitment to complying with company safety policies and identifying opportunities to improve safety practices.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
