Job Summary
The Controller plays a critical leadership role at Baldwin Family Health Care, overseeing the organization’s accounting operations under the direction of the Chief Financial Officer (CFO). This position ensures compliance with Baldwin Family Health Care’s (BFHC) policies, Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), Uniform Guidance (2 CFR 200), and Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) requirements. The Controller supervises accounting staff, manages financial reporting, develops and maintains internal controls, and safeguards the organization’s assets.
In addition, the Controller serves as an administrator of the organization’s NetSuite ERP system, ensuring accurate system setup, coding, security, and reporting functionality. The Controller also manages the Sliding Fee Discount Program, including audits, policy updates, and staff training, to ensure compliance with HRSA regulations. This position requires strong professional judgment, discretion with sensitive information, and the ability to independently execute complex responsibilities while supporting the mission and vision of Baldwin Family Health Care.
Core Responsibilities
- Supervise and manage the Accounting Department to ensure accurate, timely, and compliant execution of payroll, accounts payable, grants, and general ledger functions.
- Oversee internal and external financial reporting, including monthly financial statements, reconciliations, and grant reporting, ensuring compliance with GAAP and Uniform Guidance.
- Serve as an administrator for NetSuite ERP, managing system setup, user permissions, audit logs, and saved searches to support accurate and secure financial operations.
- Maintain effective audit practices and internal controls, including coordination of the annual external audit and 401(k) audit, as well as quarterly internal audits.
- Assist the CFO in creating, monitoring, and analyzing the annual budget; review monthly department reports with managers and provide variance analysis.
- Manage the Sliding Fee Discount Program, ensuring annual policy updates, compliance with Federal Poverty Guidelines, monthly audits, and staff training.
- Provide accounting analysis, support senior leaders with financial responsibilities, and ensure compliance with applicable regulations and policies.
- Demonstrate leadership and professionalism by modeling positive communication, maintaining confidentiality, and supporting a collaborative work environment.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or a related field required.
- Minimum five years of progressive accounting experience, including management or supervisory responsibilities.
- Experience in healthcare, FQHC, or grant-funded environments preferred.
- Strong knowledge of GAAP, Uniform Guidance (2 CFR 200), HRSA compliance, and internal control practices.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, complex formulas, and financial modeling) required; experience with ERP systems such as NetSuite preferred but can be learned.
