Desired Skills:

Ideal Candidate Profile:
- Ideal candidate has experience in a scrum master esque role, has experience owning the delivery of work (driving to a goal vs. closing a sprint), and has automation experience.
- The ideal candidate is experienced in cross functional communication – effective with business teams / process owners, and technical teams; has experience being the interpreter or middle person between these groups.
- We’re looking for a scrum master who gets it. Not the textbook version. Not ceremony-for-ceremony’s sake. This is about keeping delivery moving — and making sure leaders see what matters, when it matters.
- You already know how Scrum (and other agile processes) can feel like busywork. So does everyone else. The good news? It doesn’t have to be that way — especially in complex, fast-moving environments like ours. Your job: extend that momentum.
- This isn’t about moving cards or enforcing perfect Jira fields. It’s about reducing noise, cutting unnecessary overhead, and focusing energy where it actually moves the needle for delivery — especially when teams are under pressure, timelines shift, or leadership needs to act fast.
- You’ll be one of three scrum masters supporting 5 active squads — your day entails helping bridge gaps between Product and Configuration, removing roadblocks before they stall progress, enabling the team to improve delivery with your organizational contributions, and making sure directors have the right visibility to guide outcomes.
What You’ll Do (Real Talk)
- Drive delivery momentum, not process compliance. Focus on what helps leaders see progress, spot risks early, and make timely decisions - e.g., dashboards in Confluence that show where movement is happening… or failing.
- Reduce babysitting: No more “Oh I can't move that card” type questions. Instead, help teams self-organize where viable - owning updates, driving refinements, and squad owning timing changes without needing constant hand-holding.
- Keep routines sharp (stand-ups, refinements, retros) but only if they’re adding value. If a meeting isn’t helping someone make progress or surface risk, kill it. Or fix it.
- Be the eyes and ears for management: Help SMEs, managers and directors stay informed on what’s working, where delivery is at risk, and when resources need shifting - no surprises, just clarity.
- Own cross-team alignment across squads ((Product / QA / Config) (especially during major efforts like [Major External company intergration], [Vendor Solution] Contract Funding process, New UI). Be the glue that prevents silos and misalignment between Product & Config teams.
- Identify opportunities for automation in this space - but only where it supports delivery flow or oversight / control - not just tech novelty.
- Meet teams where they are - no one likes being told "do it my way". Especially when a team is well known for high output vs. internal and external competitors. This is not about pushing foreign protocols and standards onto an audience; this is about enabling existing high speed teams to excel, leveraging your organizational skills, agile tooling, and innate drive to help the team advance.
Responsibilities (slightly more formal):
- Cross-Team Collaboration: As we transition to a 5-squad future state, work to support teams, mitigating Product vs. Config breakdowns.
- Process Improvement: Focus on improving delivery tracking and transparency. Empower teams to self-manage and report changes independently; building efficiency.
- Routine Management: Ensure the smooth operation of stand-ups, refinements, and other routine meetings, providing clear and actionable meeting notes.
- Drive Major Initiatives: Organize larger efforts such as future Tesla, FICO Funding, and new UI projects alongside Product and Management, ensuring alignment and progress.
- Support Leadership: Assist managers, team members, and directors in understanding team dynamics and delivery status, enabling informed decision-making and resource adjustments.
- Value Addition: Move beyond textbook Scrum practices to provide meaningful insights and guidance, helping COPSS directors navigate sprints, releases, and emergencies effectively.
- Dashboard (or similar tools) Creation: Develop and maintain Confluence dashboards or other tools as needed that offer visibility into work and team movements and facilitate strategic resource allocation.
What We’re Looking For (No Fluff)
- You’ve already done this: you understand how Scrum can be a force multiplier - or a distraction. No theory. Just proven results in high-pressure environments.
- You know the difference between “value-add” and “paperwork.” You’ll instinctively cut what doesn’t matter (e.g., Jira formatting debates) and double down on things that help leaders see, act, and deliver.
- You’re comfortable in ambiguity - you don’t wait for perfect process; you adapt. You make calls based on outcome, not compliance.
- You care about delivery outcomes as much as process hygiene. Your goal isn't a “good sprint” - it’s a good result.
