About the Department

Are you someone who is ready to make a difference within their local community?  If so, the City of Flagstaff is seeking a qualified Librarian to join our team!

As the City’s newest Librarian you will actively support and uphold the City’s stated mission and values.  This is a 35 hour per week position with the Circulation Department at the downtown Flagstaff Public Library. The incumbent to this position works with other staff as the first point of contact for patrons entering the library. This includes answering basic library-related questions and directing other inquiries to the appropriate departments. A few of the basic duties include creating library accounts for new patrons, checking out and returning library materials, quality-checking returned materials, answering the phone and taking payments for lost or damaged library material. This position involves a high level of customer service interaction with library patrons and an ability and willingness to help co-workers with daily tasks; for example, keeping up with the quality checking, sorting and moving of library material from the sorting room to carts to be re-shelved. Other duties include using the library van to transfer material between the downtown and East Flagstaff Community libraries, accepting donations and retrieving items for patrons from the stacks. The schedule for this position is Monday 8:00 am – 5:00 pm, Tuesday and Wednesday 11:00 am – 8:00 pm, Thursday 3:00 pm – 8:00 pm and Friday 12:00 pm – 6:00 pm. As the incumbent to this position will often be closing when there is limited staffing and supervisor availability, the ability to work independently is highly important for success in this role. By applying to this position, you are opening yourself to the opportunity to work in a critical division program and make a significant impact on our employees and the community we serve.
