Let's begin! Digital Finance Intern (10644)

Requisition ID 10644 - Posted  - New York - 7 World Trade Center

At Moody's, we unite the brightest minds to turn today’s risks into tomorrow’s opportunities. We do this by striving to create an inclusive environment where everyone feels welcome to be who they are—with the freedom to exchange ideas, think innovatively, and listen to each other and customers in meaningful ways. Moody’s is transforming how the world sees risk. As a global leader in ratings and integrated risk assessment, we’re advancing AI to move from insight to action—enabling intelligence that not only understands complexity but responds to it. We decode risk to unlock opportunity, helping our clients navigate uncertainty with clarity, speed, and confidence.

If you are excited about this opportunity but do not meet every single requirement, please apply! You still may be a great fit for this role or other open roles. We are seeking candidates who model our values: invest in every relationship, lead with curiosity, champion diverse perspectives, turn inputs into actions, and uphold trust through integrity.

Skills and Competencies

  • Comfortable writing code in Python or R (we’re not expecting you to be a guru, but you should know your way around)
  • Analytical thinker with a curious streak and a genuine interest in how technology is reshaping finance
  • Clear communicator—able to explain technical ideas without drowning people in jargon
  • A basic understanding of blockchain, digital assets, or smart contracts
  • Experience tinkering with data tools like SQL, APIs, Jupyter, or visualization libraries
  • Exposure to machine learning or statistical modelling (class projects count!)
  • Curiosity about cybersecurity, cryptography, or how markets really work under the hood
  • Evidence of side projects, coursework, or research that shows you enjoy solving hard problems

Education

  • Students matriculating through college, studying towards a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Finance — or something similar
  • Graduation date of December 2026 – June 2028
  • Ability to work during program dates: June 1st - August 7th 2026

Responsibilities

As an intern, you won’t just be “watching from the sidelines” — you’ll be hands-on with projects that matter. Expect to:

  • Dive into data – help us gather, clean, and analyse blockchain and market information
  • Spot patterns – support building dashboards and models that make sense of complex trends
  • Kick the tires – test and document new ways of working with digital finance datasets
  • Tell the story – distil your findings into crisp presentations or short reports
  • Team up – work alongside colleagues exploring AI, data science, and the future of finance

What You’ll Gain:

  • Real-world exposure: Work with datasets and technologies shaping the future of capital markets
  • Mentorship that matters: Learn from Moody’s experts in finance, tech, and risk
  • Projects with impact: Build something tangible you can point to when you’re back on campus
  • A seat at the table: Join conversations about how digitalization and AI are reshaping financial markets
  • Future skills: Strengthen your technical toolkit and sharpen your ability to communicate insights clearly

About the Team

Enabling technologies such as blockchain, artificial intelligence (AI), quantum and advanced data analytics are transforming industries and reshaping the global economy. This shift redefines traditional market processes, creating opportunities for growth, innovation, and risk management. Within capital markets, these changes are particularly impactful.

Moody’s Ratings has taken a proactive approach to digital finance, assessing the direction, magnitude, and consequences of digitalization—including cybersecurity implications. The Digital Economy Group (DEG) leads efforts to build Moody’s Ratings’ strategy for blockchain, digital assets, decentralized finance (DeFi), and data-driven innovations. Our work ensures that the organization is prepared to understand, ingest, analyse, and deliver insights in an increasingly digital financial marketplace.

This internship offers hands-on experience at the intersection of finance, technology, and data science, contributing to real-world projects that will shape the future of Moody’s Ratings.
