Central York School District (CYSD) is seeking a dedicated and student-focused In-School Suspension (ISS) Monitor to join our team! The ideal candidate will be committed to fostering a structured, respectful, and supportive environment for students assigned to in-school suspension. This person should be dependable, calm under pressure, and skilled at maintaining a safe and orderly space that encourages accountability and academic focus. As an ISS Monitor, you will play a vital role in supporting both students and staff by supervising daily assignments, reinforcing school expectations, and guiding students toward positive behavioral choices. You will work closely with administrators, teachers, and counselors to ensure students remain engaged in their schoolwork while also supporting their social and behavioral growth.

Job Summary:
- Coordinate and monitor daily in-school suspension and detention activities.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
- Prepare and set-up in-school suspension room. Make adjustments based on volume of students.
- Read ISS rules each morning to the students, take daily attendance, and order lunches from the cafeteria.
- Walk around room to enforce rules, monitor students’ use of time and behavior.
- Coordinate with teachers, obtain and prepare assignments for suspension students. Contact teachers when necessary for clarification of assignments. Return completed assignments to teachers through use of teacher mailboxes. Keep log of assignment activities.
- Give teacher assignments to students – one assignment at a time, collect assignments, and check for completeness. Tutor students as needed.
- Provide students with alternative reading material when teacher assignments have been completed.
- Monitor after school detention. Ensure detention students have something to do.
- Communicate with Administration regarding ISS/detention issues.
- As necessary, counsel and advise kids, and serve as a mediator between students and teachers.
- Assist administration with other duties as needed.
Qualifications:
- Any combination of special training, education, experience and background which would enhance appropriate skills or abilities in working with and monitoring students; background in discipline helpful.
- The energy level and mobility necessary to function as an in-school suspension monitor
- High School diploma or equivalent
- Must have (or willing to obtain) current PA Criminal, PA Child Abuse and FBI Criminal History Background Checks
Hourly Rate:
$13.70-$18.45
*Step placement shall be based on years of service recognized by employer.
