SUMMARY:

Oversees sales aspects of the credit union’s mortgage lending activities. Suggests changes to mortgage sales procedures as well as new pricing, products, third-party relationships, and programs. Is thoroughly knowledgeable in all aspects of applicable federal and state laws and regulations relating to the origination and sale of loans, including Truth in Lending, RESPA, HMDA, Fair Lending and ECOA. Has knowledge of all underwriting requirements for sale to secondary market and construction loan administration.   

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:

• Responsible for meeting assigned sales and service goals for the credit union and the Mortgage Department

• Leads day to day sales activities of mortgage sales team to include internal and external MLOs. Responsible for the sales performance of individual MLOs including originations through branch, phone, and third-party relationships.  

• Remains knowledgeable on all laws and regulations applicable to the mortgage origination process. This includes researching and recommending changes to AVP of Mortgage Lending regarding process improvements, quality service, and increased efficiencies within the department.

• Recruits, hires, trains, and schedules sales staff to exceed mortgage origination demands and actively grow origination volume.

• Regularly monitors the current conditions of the mortgage industry and submits recommendations as needed. 

• Responsible for holding MLO’s accountable to requirements on branch visitation, realtor/builder relationships, and actives set forth by AVP of Mortgage Lending.

• Travels to MLO assigned locations to build partnerships with branch leadership and assist with needs, potential training and/or opportunities.

• Originates residential mortgage loans as needed, due to member service issues or to stand in for an Internal or External MLO to ensure proper coverage.

• Ensure Internal and External MLO’s provide quality service to members and potential members seeking residential mortgage loans by tracking and evaluating key performance data and daily pipeline activity.

• Develops and maintains relationships with local real estate agencies, home builders and various community organizations to increase awareness of Credit Union mortgage products and services.

• Provides management reports on areas of responsibility.

• Cross-sells other credit union products and services. 

• Other duties as assigned.

 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Manages subordinate staff in the mortgage sales department. 

 

PERFORMANCE STANDARDS:

• Ensures compliance of loan documentation to credit union policy, secondary market, and legal requirements.

• Assigned projects and employee performance reviews completed and submitted on time.

• Achieves assigned sales goals and established key performance metrics and ratios.

 

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

Bachelor’s degree in Business or a related field from an accredited university preferred, plus a minimum of five (5) years experience of demonstrated successful progression within a comparable mortgage position, to include supervisory experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Requires the ability to lead and supervise others.  Ability to communicate verbally and in writing with others is essential.
