OVERVIEW

At Consumer Reports, we put thousands of products to the test, from air conditioners and washers to dryers and beyond. Backed by more than 130 testing and research experts and 63 state-of-the-art labs, our Westchester headquarters is the largest nonprofit consumer product testing center in the world.

As a Test Technician, you will be at the heart of our mission, performing hands-on evaluations of a wide range of consumer appliances, from everyday essentials to highly complex systems. This role is perfect for problem solvers with a natural curiosity about how things work and a passion for quality. You will report directly to the Manager of Test Technicians and play a key part in delivering results that shape the marketplace.

This is an onsite position located in our Yonkers, New York headquarters. This position is not eligible for sponsorship or relocation assistance. 

How You'll Make An Impact

In this role, you’ll carry out day-to-day testing activities across multiple product categories, including setting up and operating equipment, preparing and checking products, recording accurate data, and following established work instructions. You’ll collaborate with technicians and project leaders to keep testing on schedule, report observations, and ensure results meet CR’s standards. The testing you support will give consumers the trusted insights they need to make smart purchasing decisions. Your contributions may even drive companies to enhance their products and meet the high standards set by CR’s testing.

ABOUT YOU

You’ll Be Highly Rated If:

  • You have the experience. You will need 1–2 years of experience conducting product testing in a laboratory or test environment.
  • You have the technical ability. You have strong technical skills and can analyze, interpret, and clearly communicate test results.
  • You understand how form and function work together and can apply this insight to complex products, considering both their design and purpose.
  • You are deadline driven and have a track record of consistently meeting tight project timelines.
  • You are skilled in using Excel and G Suite to organize data, document results, and collaborate effectively with team members.

You'll Be One of Our Top Picks If:

  • You have the degree. You have earned an engineering degree or equivalent experience.
  • You have hands-on experience testing or working with a variety of home appliances.
  • You can clearly and concisely communicate your findings, both verbally and in writing.

FAIR PAY AND A JUST WORKPLACE

At Consumer Reports, we are committed to fair, transparent pay and we strive to provide competitive, market-informed compensation.The target salary range for this position is $70,970.54 - $73K. It is anticipated that most qualified candidates will fall near the middle of this range. Compensation for the successful candidate will be informed by the candidate’s particular combination of knowledge, skills, competencies, and experience.  We have three locations: Yonkers, NY, Washington, DC and Colchester, CT. We are registered to do business in and can only hire from the following states and federal district: Arizona, California, Connecticut, Illinois, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Texas, Vermont, Virginia and Washington, DC.
