Job Summary:  To work on a team that is fully involved in overall project scopes, from initial concept through product launch to involve research, configuration, testing and troubleshooting sensors, actuators and small motors for custom work cells.

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Design, develop, and implement control systems for automated assembly and testing machines using IEC 61131-3 Structured Text programming.
  • Utilize structured text and ladder logic for PLC programming and system integration as needed.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define system requirements, develop control algorithms, and ensure seamless integration with mechanical and electrical components.
  • Program and configure automation systems, including PLCs, HMIs, servo motors, and other control hardware.
  • Conduct system testing, debugging, and validation to ensure performance, reliability, and compliance with regulatory standards (e.g., FDA, GMP).
  • Develop and maintain detailed documentation, including control system designs, wiring diagrams, and programming logic.
  • Support commissioning, troubleshooting, and optimization of automated systems at customer sites or in-house.
  • Manage project schedules, budgets, and vendor relationships to ensure timely delivery of automation solutions.
  • Stay updated on industry trends, including emerging technologies like IoT and Industry 4.0, to enhance system performance and capabilities.

Essential Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Control Systems Engineering, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of experience designing and programming automated assembly and testing machines.
  • Expertise in IEC 61131-3 Structured Text programming for PLCs.
  • Working knowledge of ladder logic programming for PLC systems.
  • Proven ability to work independently and in a small, collaborative team environment.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and a self-motivated approach to tackling complex automation challenges.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills to interact with team members, stakeholders, and customers. 
  • Familiarity with automation electrical controls, including wiring, sensors, and actuators.

Desirable Qualifications:

  • Experience with B&R Automation platforms (e.g., Automation Studio, PLCs, or HMIs).
  • Knowledge of Fanuc robot programming and integration.
  • Expertise in servo motor control and tuning for precision applications.
  • Experience in process control and monitoring systems, including data acquisition and analysis.
  • Background in medical or pharmaceutical automation projects, with a strong understanding of regulatory requirements (e.g., FDA, GMP, ISO 13485).
  • Proficiency with tools like MATLAB, Simulink, Python or other simulation software for control system design.
  • Familiarity with Industry 4.0 technologies, such as IoT or AI-driven automation, is a plus.

ADA Requirements:

  • Bend, squat, climb, grasp, reach, lift or otherwise move frequently for extended periods 
  • Lift, move or otherwise transfer up to 50 lbs. frequently, or more occasionally
  • Walk, stand or otherwise move about continuously
  • Exposure to machine shop physical hazards including chemicals which may require respiratory protection
  • Typically sits, grasps items and performs keyboarding for occasional operation of a computer
