Position Overview:
The Tax and Customs Intern will be assisting the Accounting Tax & Customs department with various tasks such as preparation of regulatory tax filings and tax remittances (e.g. HST and other indirect taxes). The intern will also be responsible for certain accounts within the Accounting GL System. The intern will also assist with the preparation of financial documents and reconciliations for month-end and audits. They will also assist with Federal and Provincial tax audits as they occur and perform tax research as requested. The Tax and Customs Intern will also assist with compliance related projects including Internal Control System (ICS). The intern will assist with daily customs clearance of importation of parts and the use of robotic process automation (RPA). In addition, the intern will oversee the maintenance and alignment with software developers for the RPA.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist with the preparation of the Company’s tax provisions.
- Assist with regulatory tax filings (CRA requests and questionnaires) and tax remittances (i.e. HST, PST, QST, Excise Tax, etc.).
- Assist in calculation and filing of taxable benefits in the area such as vehicle and dealer incentives.
- Perform certain month-end reconciliations.
- Prepare financial documentation and reconciliation for audit.
- Assist in Government tax audits such as income tax, commodity tax, and transfer pricing.
- Assist with all areas of ICS projects including process mapping and control documentation, monthly KCI monitoring, user violation clean up, etc.
- Assist in ad-hoc projects as requested.
- Maintain and implement change requirements to the RPA.
- Process daily customs clearance requirements.
- Comply in accordance to CBSA requirements.
- Aligns with BMW AG on customs.
Qualifications:
- University Degree with focus in Tax, Customs, or Accounting.
- Previous experience in tax, customs, or accounting function is an asset
- Attention to detail, multi-tasking, and ability to meet tight deadlines.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
