The Prince George’s County Health Department is currently seeking qualified applicants to fill a Public Health Administrative Support(Administrative Aide 3Agrade A17 position, in the Behavioral Health Division.


About the Position

This is highly responsible and advanced secretarial/administrative work designed to relieve an important official of administrative detail. Work at this level is distinguished from the II level by lead work responsibilities and more involvement in coordinating and manage office activities. Incumbents are required to apply a good working knowledge of the programs under supervisor's control to the solution of procedural and management problems. Work at this level and the higher levels in this class series also involve handling sensitive and confidential issues and related activities. Incumbents in this class work independently under general supervision of and administrative supervisor (generally grades G28- G-30). Work performance is evaluated in terms of accuracy and timely completion of projects and assignments

About the Agency

The Prince George's County Health Department's (PGCHD) vision is that all Prince Georgians are their healthiest at every age and every stage. Their mission is to lead, engage, and empower our community to work collaboratively towards disease prevention, health equity, and total well-being. The PGCHD works to protect and support the public’s health through numerous services that range from restaurant inspections and disease tracking to care coordination and health promotion. The department is composed of four divisions: Behavioral Health Services, Environmental Health and Disease Control, Family Health Services, and Health and Wellness, supported by the Office of Administration, Office of Human Resources and the Office of the Health Officer. The mandate of the department has been, and will remain, broad. This plan emphasizes improving core functions and operations, including protecting the public from health threats, implementing strategies to support healthy living, and maintaining a focus on vulnerable populations, while developing efficient internal processes to support these activities.

Position Duties

  • Independently determines and prioritizes assignments. 
  • Contribute ideas and planning to program development, expansion, and new opportunities.
  • Identify and compile data points and statistics for monthly reporting, proposal development, grantor request, etc.
  • Submit and track orders for office and grant program-related supplies and items through delivery to appropriate personnel.
  • Maintain an appointment calendar and schedules appointments for the supervisor, and for professional staff when required.
  • Plan, develop, organize and implement methods and procedures for day-to-day office operations.
  • Notify appropriate individuals about schedules meetings, provides participants with necessary information and materials, and prepares agendas. Responsible for the maintenance of the online filing system.
  • Develop program materials and maintain program webpages with most current information.
  • Organize, coordinate, and disseminate both physical and online information to County employees, citizens, civic groups, government officials, and others. Attend management meetings or presentations, takes notes and prepares minutes.

Minimum Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • Must have experience in the Administrative Aide II level equal to the length of the probationary period; or Associates degree in Business Administration or Secretarial Science and one (1) year of secretarial/administrative experience which involved working with the public, office management and operational details. 

Any equivalent combination of relevant training, education and experience may also be considered. 


Preferred Qualifications

  • A valid driver's license.

Conditions of Employment: Upon selection, the candidate must: 


  • Pass an administered Administrative Aide exam. Applicants who have previously taken and passed the exam on or after 8/1/2024 will not be required to re-testPrevious passing test scores will be applied.

  • Meet all training and performance standards and demonstrate proficiency as required by the agency. 

  • Wear and use agency protective apparel and equipment in the performance of their assigned duties. 

  • Successfully pass preemployment checks which may include reference checks, background investigations, and drug screenings, where applicable.

  • Be willing and able to serve as an essential employee. Essential employees are expected to report during standard or non-standard hours as operations necessitate, or during emergencies. Essential employees are expected to report or remain at work when other County employees are granted Administrative Leave.
