About the Department
Kent County’s Office of the Public Defender is committed to ensuring fair and effective legal representation for indigent defendants. We are looking for a dedicated, detail-oriented professional to join our team as a Senior Legal Analyst, supporting attorneys and department leadership in delivering high-quality defense services.

What You’ll Do:
- Conduct legal research, records management, and document preparation to support attorneys and cases.
- Provide pre-trial and trial litigation support, helping attorneys build strong defenses.
- Maintain case files and legal documents, ensuring organization and accuracy.
- Coordinate litigation holds and electronic filings with courts and agencies.
- Provide administrative support, including scheduling, correspondence, and meeting coordination.
- Work closely with county officials, departments, and external stakeholders to ensure seamless operations.

Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma with 3 years’ experience in a legal environment, or an equivalent of education, training, and work experience. Bachelor’s degree or a Paralegal degree desired.
- Working knowledge of court rules and legal standards, citation formats and terminology.
- Working knowledge of criminal codes of the State of Michigan and established local court procedures.
- Willingness and ability to interact positively and objectively with clients, other staff and supervisors, managers, court staff, opposing counsel, the judiciary, and members of the general public from a wide range of cultural and socio-economic backgrounds.
- Willingness and ability to work within a team approach to all aspects of indigent defense.
- Keen interest in aiding efforts to build a system that is a model of holistic indigent defense.
