The Open Pits Department at NSR has a newly created opportunity for a highly experienced Safety & Training Superintendent to join the team. This role will work a 4/3 roster out of Perth, on a permanent & full-time basis, at our KCGM Operations.
Reporting to the Project Manager, this key role will be involved in the set-up of all management plans, training proficiency & HSEQ across the department, helping ensure the developed approach is scalable, maintainable & replicable. Once operational, the focus will shift to improving, supporting & communicating compliance to WHS Acts & Regulations, and improving capability through training on NSR’s multiple open pit operations.

- Champion and ensure compliance to NSR’s safety policies and objectives, along with actively promoting all safety management systems & processes.
- Display a clear commitment to safety and health, with the clear aim of eliminating or controlling the risk of injury, as well as damage to equipment.
- Apply a risk-based approach to lead the development and implementation of fit for purpose systems, processes and controls for the OPEN PITS department
- Develop sound partnerships, provide continuous support, guidance and direction to NSR and contractor personnel across all safety & training requirements.
- Actively participate in major project planning to ensure safety plans reflect the completeness and integrity required.
- Assist in leading & managing the department training team, as well as planning, developing & implementing training initiatives.
- Involved in training delivery, including safety, machinery operation & leadership development training.
- Ensure compliance & adhere to regulatory training requirements and industry best practices.
- Develop training manuals, presentations, and other learning resources.
- Evaluate training effectiveness, by assessing the impact of training programs on employee performance and safety.

Qualifications & Experience:
- Extensive experience within a similar position working at a remote mining operation, ideally with exposure to gold mining & processing.
- Ideally hold a recognised Tertiary Qualification in Occupational Health & Safety or other relevant discipline
- Hold a Certificate IV Workplace Health & Safety, a Certificate IV - Training & Assessment, and ISO 45001 Lead Auditor Accreditation (or equivalent)
- Possess a sound understanding of barrier/failed defence type risk management processes (iCAM/ Bow Tie).
- Previous experience in the development and implementation of companywide safety & training programs
- Demonstrated experience working with Safety & Training Management Systems.
- Excellent understanding and sounding working knowledge of the Work Health and Safety Act 2020 and the Work Health Safety (Mines) Regulations 2022, along with statutory OHS & training / assessment requirements.
- A thorough understanding of the operational training requirements that best support open pit mining operations.
