The J. Turner Hood Elementary School is seeking a Digital Learning Specialist Long-Term Substitute tentatively from October 8, 2025 through November 5, 2025. North Reading Public Schools is actively looking to build a diverse workforce to ensure all students feel welcome, safe, and valued for who they are and supported to reach their potential.

 

Under the supervision of the Principal and the Coordinator of Digital Learning, the Digital Learning Specialist will serve as the building-based instructional technology coach and information specialist. 

 

This assignment is three days per week on Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays.


Essential duties 

  • Teach students research, information literacy, and digital literacy skills (e.g., online safety, source evaluation, coding, computational thinking) aligned with Massachusetts Digital Literacy and Computer Science Standards for grade K-5
  • Co-teach, model, and support integrated lessons in the classroom by providing direct instruction to students and educators in the use of computer applications (such as Scratch, See Saw, and Google Suite) and new and emerging technologies
  • Lead and support educators in integrating technology into the K-5 curriculum, including the school’s 1:1 Chromebook initiative
  • Provide tailored technology and library support for students with diverse learning styles, including those with Individual Education Plans (IEPs), ensuring accessibility and inclusivity
  • Facilitate school-based technology teams
  • Other duties as assigned by the Principal, Coordinator of Digital Learning, or their Designee

 Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in a related field
  • Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education teaching license in Instructional Technology Specialist Teacher, all grade levels or Digital Literacy/Computer Science, grades PreK-6
  • Demonstrated skills and knowledge of educational technology
  • Demonstrated skills and knowledge of school media services, library automation, and technology integration
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Collaborative working demeanor
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills 
  • At least 3 years of relevant experience preferred
  • Citizenship, residency, or work visa required
