Job Description: Sound Effect Technician– High School Fall Play

Position: Sound Effect Technician
Reports To: Producer and ASB Coordinator

Job Summary:
The Sound Effect Technician is responsible for preparing, operating, and managing all sound effects for the production. This position works closely with the Producer, Director, and Stage Manager to ensure audio elements are executed smoothly and effectively during rehearsals and performances. The technician also helps educate and supervise student crew members and collaborates with parent and community volunteers as needed.

 

Essential Job Functions:

  • Design, source, or record all required sound effects for the show.

  • Prepare cue sheets and coordinate timing of effects with the Stage Manager.

  • Set up and test playback equipment, hardware, and software.

  • Operate sound effects during rehearsals and live performances.

  • Train and support student crew members in sound operation.

  • Maintain accurate records of equipment use and budget-related purchases.

  • Attend strike and restore all equipment to its pre-show condition.

Qualifications:

  • Basic knowledge of sound effects.
  • Ability to work with a team and follow artistic direction.
  • Attention to detail and creativity.

Compliance and Supervision

  • Support adherence to school and district policies, safety standards, and ASB regulations.
  • Assist with building access, supervision, and closing facilities during rehearsals and performances.

Minimum Requirements

  • Must be 21 years of age or older.
  • Must qualify to work in the proximity of children under the conditions of a WSP/FBI background check.
  • Current First Aid/CPR certification (or willingness to obtain).
  • Completion of required district trainings (Blood Borne Pathogen, Sexual Harassment, etc.).

Qualifications

  • Knowledge of theatre production processes.
  • Familiarity with stage management, technical theatre, or event coordination preferred.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and collaboration skills.
  • Ability to work positively with students, staff, parents, and community volunteers.
  • Commitment to supporting a student-centered, inclusive production environment.
