Summary As a secondary English Language Arts (ELA) Teacher covering grades 6 to 12 in the Florence Unified School District, you will play a crucial role in guiding students through the world of literature, critical analysis, and effective communication. Your responsibilities will include designing engaging and challenging lessons, fostering a love for reading and writing, and preparing students for college and career readiness. Your role contributes to the overarching mission of delivering exceptional education by nurturing students' literary and communicative skills.
Essential Functions Curriculum Delivery: Successful implementation of the district ELA curriculum and state standards according to the students’ grade level
Literary Analysis: Guide students in analyzing and interpreting literature, exploring themes, characters, symbolism, and cultural context.
Writing Instruction: Teach effective writing techniques, grammar rules, research skills, and the art of persuasive communication.
Critical Thinking: Encourage critical thinking, interpretation, and argumentation through discussions and literary response activities.
Research Skills: Guide students in conducting research, evaluating sources, and integrating evidence effectively into their writing.
Technology Integration: Integrate technology tools and digital platforms to enhance learning experiences and foster digital literacy.
Assessments and Feedback: Design assessments that measure students' comprehension, analysis, and writing skills. Provide timely and constructive feedback to support students' growth.
College and Career Readiness: Prepare students for college-level reading, writing, and communication skills that are essential for academic success and future careers.
Parent Communication: Maintain open lines of communication with parents and guardians, sharing insights into students' progress and achievements.
Professional Development: Engage in ongoing professional development opportunities to stay updated with ELA trends, teaching strategies, and curriculum enhancements.

- Bachelor's degree in Education, English, or a related field; teaching certification is required. Master’s Degree (MA) preferred.
- Proven experience in teaching high school ELA, with a deep understanding of literature, writing instruction, and critical analysis.
- Effective classroom management skills and the ability to create an engaging and intellectually stimulating learning environment.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.

Working Environment: The usual and customary methods of performing the job’s functions require the following physical demands; the employee is frequently required to sit; reach with hands and arms and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
