POSITION: Evening Supervisor 

DEPARTMENT: Youth Services Department 

LOCATION: Unity Plaza Community Center, 576 Blake Avenue, Brooklyn, NY 11207

REPORTS TO: Program Director and/or Assistant Program Director 

SALARY: $40,000 Yearly 

DATES: October 2025

SCHEDULE: 35hrs/week, Tuesday - Saturday, 2pm - 10pm. This position is performance-based and is also contingent on funding availability.

JOB SUMMARY: As part of our Youth Services Department’s vision, all Youth Services Staff will assist promoting growth, leadership, and positive self-image in all young people at all of our Grand Street Settlement sites. Evening Supervisor during the program will promote and develop a safe and engaging learning environment for youth. Recreational activities, team building activities/games, theme-based lessons, and trips are integral parts of the program activities.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND REQUIREMENTS:

  • High School diploma a must, college degree preferred 
  • Youth development experience required
  • Proven ability to work with various age groups
  • Previous experience working with diverse people
  • Good conflict mediation and public relations skills
  • Strong time-management skills; ability to handle simultaneous assignments with a high degree of accuracy, and meet deadlines in a high-pressure environment
  • Self-starter with the ability to work independently and with minimal guidance
  • Ability to work independently, assess priorities, and take initiative
  • Capacity to thrive under pressure while working on multiple tasks and projects
  • A team player with demonstrated commitment to working with urban youth and young adults from an asset-based perspective
  • Ability to set up and maintain a work environment that challenges gender stereotypes and is LGBTQIA+- friendly
  • Must be flexible, cooperative, and willing to work in a team environment
  • Must have NYS Food Handler’s Certificate
  • An ideal candidate is personable, energetic, & enthusiastic.
  • Candidate must successfully complete the following: NYSDOH Fingerprinting Screening; New York State Clearance Review Background Check; 3 Reference Checks; Physical w/ updated TB Test (Fees may apply)
  • If offered the position, must submit $25 fee for NY State Clearance Review
  • Candidates must be able to communicate effectively with all students while remaining professional at all times and be able to motivate the students while setting an example in all areas, including responsibility, timeliness, organization, attendance, and most importantly, professionalism.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Training

  • Must complete program trainings as per school-age childcare requirements 

Supervise

  • Provide leadership and strategic direction to full-time and part-time program staff
  • Provide direct/indirect supervision of all program staff and delivery of services on a day-to-day basis, in order to ensure that all goals, targets, and performance outcomes are met on a daily/weekly/monthly basis
  • Problem solve and intervene directly with youth in groups
  • Maintain adequate staff to participant supervision during all activities and trips

Facilitate/Plan Remote Activities

  • Plan and facilitate remote activities for youth that develop their social, emotional, and/or academic skills
  • Must facilitate group management and activities on online platforms 
  • Work collaboratively with co-workers
  • Provide resources for youth through remote engagement sessions. 

Ensure Safety

  • Must be able to supervise a group of children and participate in activities and trips; provide and maintain a safe working environment.
  • Maintain adequate supplies in first aid and safety kits
  • Maintain medical and contact information for each participant
  • Responsible for maintaining a daily log of all incidents/ injuries 
  • Address conflicts that have the potential to undermine community cohesion and trigger violent clashes
  • Prepare attendance reports and other reports as required
  • Know and adhere to all regulations and procedures outlined in the safety plan

Other

  • Refer participants and their families to relevant community resources
  • Complete all necessary paperwork that is required
  • Manage registration forms and process identification cards for program participants, and support in inputting data into the DYCD online
  • Come ready to work with a positive attitude
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the program supervisors
