Job Description:

ALTEN UK is currently looking for a Metrologist to join our engineering team, supporting advanced aerospace and defence projects.

You will provide specialist expertise in measurement science, ensuring dimensional compliance of precision components, supporting New Product Introduction (NPI) and APQP processes, and driving Zero Defects through advanced measurement techniques and continuous improvement initiatives.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform high-accuracy dimensional measurement of aerospace components (e.g., turbine blades, discs, casings) using CMMs, laser trackers, optical systems, and surface measurement equipment.
  • Develop, validate, and maintain measurement programs (PC-DMIS, Calypso, MODUS, or equivalent).
  • Interpret engineering drawings, GD&T, and customer specifications to ensure compliance with AS9100 and OEM standards.
  • Conduct Measurement System Analysis (MSA), Gauge R&R, and uncertainty studies.
  • Support root cause investigations, FAIR sentencing, and concessions with accurate dimensional data.
  • Define measurement strategies during NPI, PPAP, and APQP phases.
  • Develop standardised work instructions and training materials for metrology.
  • Contribute to digital transformation (automation of data extraction, integration with dashboards).
  • Provide metrology support to cross-functional teams, suppliers, and audits.
Qualifications:

Ideal Skills:

  • Experience in dimensional metrology within aerospace or other high-precision manufacturing.
  • Strong knowledge of GD&T, ISO 1101, and aerospace quality systems (AS9100, ISO17025).
  • Demonstrated experience with MSA, R&R studies, and uncertainty evaluation.

Desirable:

  • Experience with turbine component metrology (blades, vanes, discs, casings).
  • Knowledge of advanced technologies such as GOM/ATOS scanning, GelSight, or CT scanning.
  • Six Sigma Green Belt / Black Belt or Lean Manufacturing training.
  • Familiarity with SPC tools, Power BI, and data visualisation systems.
