Department: Customer Care/Billing  

Job Statement

Under direct supervision of the Billing Supervisor, analyze and resolve billing issues/concerns and perform various billing functions to render the customer an error-free bill. 

Essential Duties

  1. Reviews and analyzes meter readings outside of billing parameters and makes decisions to release for billing or take follow-up measures to ensure the accuracy of bills.
  2. Issues orders to reread meters or maintenance orders to check for meter accuracy and review the results to render accurate bills.
  3.  Review and analyze various error codes created when accounts are processed through billing but do not invoice due to errors. 
  4. Performs cancel and rebill functions and renders corrected bills due to incorrect meter readings and/or incorrect estimations.  Performs reset clearing and reverses late payment fees as necessary.
  5. Receives water repair statements, research, and issue adjustments if repair is within city ordinance guidelines.
  6.  Interact professionally and courteously with customers informing them of unusually high consumption that results in high bills.
  7. Ensure that actual readings are obtained when the maximum number of estimates have been performed.
  8. Interact professionally with other departments/sections to research and follow up on billing issues.
  9. Maintain a record of implausible routes worked, orders keyed, and corrections made.
  10. Performs other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements

Education/Training/Certifications:  High school diploma or GED equivalent required. Associate Degree in Business or a related field is preferred.

Experience/Skills:  A minimum of one (1) year of Customer Service Experience and the ability to work well with others is required. Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required. Billing experience working account corrections such as cancel/rebill functions, reset clearing, and reversing late payment fees is preferred.

Equipment:  Computer, calculator, fax machine, copier, telephone. 

Physical Demands/Environmental Conditions: Primarily performs sedentary activities in an office environment; some tasks require repetitive motion over an extended period of time.  

Other:  The ideal candidate for this position will have a pleasing personality, the ability to make judgment decisions under strict time restraints, great work initiative, be a team player, and work with minimal supervision. Additionally, the individual must have excellent written and verbal communication skills.  The schedule for this position may involve coming in at alternate times and working on the weekend.
