About the Role: The Computer Operator is responsible for the operation and maintenance of the IBM iSeries (AS/400) systems. This role ensures the efficient and secure running of batch processes, monitors system performance, and provides technical support to resolve operational issues. The ideal candidate will have experience with iSeries systems, strong problem-solving skills, and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
Requirements
What You’ll Do:
- System Operations: Monitor and manage the iSeries systems, including starting and stopping subsystems, managing system jobs, and ensuring system availability and performance.
- Batch Processing: Schedule, monitor, and troubleshoot batch jobs. Ensure timely completion and accurate processing of all scheduled jobs.
- System Monitoring: Use monitoring tools to keep track of system performance, disk space usage, job queues, and system messages. Respond to alerts and resolve issues promptly.
- Backup and Recovery: Perform regular backups of the iSeries systems. Manage backup media and perform recovery procedures as needed.
- Incident Management: Provide first-level support for operational issues. Escalate problems to the appropriate technical teams when necessary.
- Documentation: Maintain accurate documentation of system operations, procedures, and incident reports.
- Continuous Improvement: Identify opportunities for process improvements and system enhancements. Participate in projects to upgrade or enhance iSeries systems.
- Support: Provide support to end-users and other IT teams regarding iSeries-related issues and queries.
What You Bring:
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent. An associate degree in computer science or related field is preferred.
- Experience: Minimum of 2 years of experience operating and managing IBM iSeries (AS/400) systems.
- Technical Skills:
- Proficiency in iSeries system operations and commands.
- Experience with job scheduling and monitoring tools.
- Knowledge of backup and recovery processes.
- General knowledge of Visual Basic, Microsoft Access, and EDI.
- Soft Skills:
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Detail-oriented with a focus on accuracy and quality.
Physical and Environmental Requirements
· Early morning position. Day starts at 3:00 A.M. Monday – Friday.
· On-call availability for emergency support 7 days a week.
· Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
· You will support technology where it is located. In the plant and office space. Temperatures and noise levels will be inconsistent or uncomfortable at times. Your office space is climate controlled.
