State-of-the-art pediatric services are provided by a comprehensive staff that includes pediatric subspecialty physicians and a nursing team that is “Magnet” recognized for nursing excellence and high-quality patient care. The hospital also has earned national recognition for 12 consecutive years as a “Best Children’s Hospitals” by U.S. News & World Report and was included, together with Orlando Health ORMC, in the IBM Watson Health 100 Top Hospitals® list for 2021.

 

Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children Child Life & Allied Therapy seeking a Pediatric Activity Coordinator.The Pediatric Activity Coordinator  coordinates services for pediatric patients and families that encompass the provision of
recreational activitiesfor varying ages and medical conditions, the maintenance of play spacesfor safe use, and opportunities to increase patient engagement to enhance the patient experience. 

 

Shift: Sunday -Thursday  (9:00 AM - 5:00 PM)

 

Responsibilities:

Essential Functions


• Responsible for planning and implementing diversional activities for pediatric patients utilizing growth and development principles, both in groups and at the bedside, that can sustain participant’s interest and enhance positive experiences.
• Collaborates with each patient’s health care team to exchange information that is relevant to providing the most appropriate activities that are considerate of the patient’s medical condition and ability to engage in activity.
• Demonstrates the ability to make referrals to other service lines (i.e.: Child Life, Music Therapy, Patient Academics, Facility Dog, Volunteer Services, Studio/Gaming, Healing Arts, and Social Work) when it could be beneficial for their involvement.
• Ability to think critically and work independently for purposes of prioritizing needs and demands that align with patient schedules throughout the day.
• Coordinates playroom activities that effectively engage patients of all ages, abilities, and interests.
• Promotes studio programming and special events by actively seeking out patients who they can assist to participate.
• Documents any implemented activities, interactions, and outcomes in the EHR from patient encounters, as well as capturing other data as deemed necessary for department statistics.
• Maintains pediatric play spaces according to OH guidelines so that they remain safe, clean, and therapeutically oriented, as well as responsibility for toy cleaning for those spaces.
• Coordinates the pediatric unit volunteer training and assignments so that volunteer service is utilized appropriately and effectively.
• Coordinates the distribution and storage of department resources, both purchased and items that were donated, to maintain adequate and consistent inventory for the play spaces and unit after-hours cabinets.
• Maintains reasonably regular, punctual attendance consistent with Orlando Health policies, the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards.
• Maintains compliance with all Orlando Health policies and procedures.
Other Related Functions


• Serves as an escort for community partners who are on-site for patient and unit visitation (e.g.: Disney characters, pet therapy, sports players).
• Participates in Child Life activities and special events for patients as scheduled; demonstrates awareness of confidentiality, risk, and infection control issues.
• Participates in interviewing, orienting, and training new team members to the department.
• Participates as an active member and contributor to department work groups as assigned.
• Helps to meet guests making in-kind donations as well as helping to update wish lists for needed items.

Qualifications:

Education/Training


Associate degree with emphasis in child development, early childhood education, therapeutic recreation, or related field.
Two (2) years of directly related work experience with children may substitute for the Associate degree.


Licensure/Certification


Maintains current BLS/HealthCare Provider certification.


Experience


One (1) year experience working with groups of children in a day care, school, summer camps, nannying, or related environment is preferred with the Associate degree.
