- Oversees the Emmaus Café.
- Is the person responsible for supervising and working directly with MUAC student workers as follows:
- Student workers are responsible for assisting in operations at the Emmaus Café and reports to the Emmaus Café Cook Coordinator with respect to these Essential Functions:
- Serves food and beverage items to customers while ensuring guest satisfaction and anticipating the customers’ needs
- Maintains excellent customer service and positive attitude towards guest, customers, clients, co-workers, etc.
- Replenishes food items and ensure product is stocked to appropriate levels
- Assists with daily inventory of food and beverage items
- Is responsible for accurate purchase transactions
- Adheres to PHJC safety policies and procedures including proper food safety and sanitation
- Prepares beverage items according to standardized processes
- Properly stores food by adhering to food safety policies and procedures
- Cleans and sanitizes all eating/drinking areas as well as the Emmaus Café kitchenette – including sweeping and mopping entire area as directed
- Breaks down, cleans, and sanitizes workstations
- Ensures security of company assets
- Other duties and tasks as assigned by Café Cook Coordinator
- Provide quality service for all customers choosing to utilize the Emmaus Café.
- Ensure that the proper daily food and drink items offered in the Emmaus Café are prepared and available by working closely with the student coworkers.
- Supervise the products served are prepared as directed and meet quality expectations.
- Perform the responsibilities of this position with emphasis on safety making certain all safety practices are followed.
- Provide Dietary Services Manager lists of items needed, food and supplies in advance so that inventory always remains adequate.
- Clean and sanitize all appliances, equipment and tools thus providing the best care of all kitchen supplies.
- Dispose of all recyclable material to responsibly protect our immediate and global environment.
- As part of the Dietary Department this position may be called upon to serve as a Dietary Services Aide, help with food prep, be part of catering for special events or groups as directed by the Manager of Dietary Services.
- Work to enhance the experience for MUAC student workers to have an environment in which they are able to learn and grow through this process.
- As a representative of the Dietary Services department, it is imperative to be service driven and to approach all significant outside requests in a collaborative manner with the customer and the Manager of Dietary Services.
- As a Servant Leader this position is charged with participating in making certain all areas of responsibilities assigned are clean and sanitized, all eating/drinking areas as well as the Emmaus Café kitchenette – including sweeping and mopping entire area as directed.
- Monitor and record temperatures of equipment (when assigned) to assure proper temperatures are maintained.
- Emmaus Cook Coordinator role may include all tasks and assignments related to assisting in kitchen operations.
- Other tasks and duties as assigned.
SPECIFICATIONS
Prior Education and Training:
- High School diploma or equivalent preferred
Prior work Experience / Skills required:
- Ability to read and follow directions.
- Ability to relate to others on a continuous basis.
- Position requires excellent written and verbal communication skills as well as reasoning, math, and language skills.
- Ability to make independent judgments occasionally.
- Ability to proficiently operate cash register.
On-the-Job Training/Orientation Required:
- Completion of new co-worker orientation.
- Completion of Mission Affirmation Orientation.
- Attendance at all required meetings.
- Must be available to work varied shifts which may include weekends, holidays, and evenings.
Other Position Requirements:
- Must be able to work in either kitchen or the Emmaus Café kitchenette as assigned.
- Must be able to work a flexible schedule including weekends and holidays if assigned.
- Neatness, cleanliness, and thoroughness also required.
- Must follow appropriate dress code.
Environmental Conditions:
- Requires sustained mental attention.
- Must be able to stand for long periods of time.
- Work area can be very hot or cold with exposure to burns, cuts, and falls.
- Many physical demands that include bending, twisting, lifting, and pushing. Constant moving of food, supplies, and equipment on and off shelves, carts, and around the kitchen.
- Must be able to lift as well as push/pull up to 75 lbs. occasionally, 50 lbs. frequently, and 10 lbs. constantly.
- Must be able to lift overhead up to 30 lbs frequently and 50 lbs occasionally.
- Position requires continuous standing and walking as well as frequent bending, reaching and pushing/pulling.
- Position requires occasional climbing, crouching, and balancing.
- Position requires good visual acuity.
