The Senior Revenue Accountant is a key member of the finance team responsible for overseeing the full cycle of revenue accounting activities for the organization’s international operations. This position ensures the accuracy, completeness, and compliance of revenue reporting, supports country teams in financial processes, and provides timely, insightful analysis to internal stakeholders. The ideal candidate combines strong technical accounting expertise with experience in the nonprofit sector and the ability to collaborate across diverse teams and geographies.
Key Responsibilities:
Revenue Accounting & Reporting:
- Manage all aspects of revenue recognition, ensuring compliance with GAAP and nonprofit accounting standards (ASC 958), and donor requirements across multiple funding streams and international programs.
- Maintain schedules for restricted/unrestricted revenue, grants and contribution receivable, deferred revenue and conditional contributions.
- Monitor and review donor agreements, grant contracts and restricted funds to ensure proper accounting, release, and reporting.
- Support monthly and annual close processes by preparing journal entries and reconciliations related to revenue and receivables.
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual revenue reports for leadership, external auditors, and donors.
- Review and analyze trends in revenue, identifying areas for improvement and risk mitigation.
Audit & Compliance
- Coordinate the revenue component of global and country-specific audits, preparing schedules, supporting documentation, and respond to auditor requests.
- Ensure all revenue-related accounting records comply with organizational policies and local regulations.
- Support the preparation of annual financial statements and donor reporting.
Process Improvement & Controls
- Design, document, and improve processes for revenue accounting and related internal controls.
- Support development and implementation of organizational finance policies related to revenue management.
- Ensure accurate allocation and coding of revenue to relevant programs, projects, or country offices.
Special Projects
- Lead or support finance-related projects (system upgrades, automation initiatives, donor reporting enhancements, etc.) as required.
Experience with Private Foundations, Major Donors, Donor-Advised Funds, and Planned Giving:
- Demonstrated expertise grant reporting, compliance, and renewal processes to maximize funding opportunities and partnership outcomes.
- Extensive experience coordinating with donor-advised funds (DAFs), understanding the nuances of DAF distributions, compliance requirements, and ensuring proper receipting and acknowledgement to facilitate seamless giving and ongoing donor engagement.
- Skilled in advising and structuring planned giving arrangements, such as charitable bequests, trusts, and gift annuities, collaborating with legal and financial professionals to guide donors in making tax-advantaged, mission-focused legacy contributions.
- Adept at working collaboratively with fundraising, finance, and program teams to ensure all gifts from foundations, major donors, donor-advised funds, and planned giving vehicles are accurately recorded, restricted or designated as appropriate, and reported in accordance with donor intent, organizational policies, and regulatory requirements.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (CPA or equivalent preferred). Related experience or a relevant combination of education and experience will be considered.
- Minimum 5 years of progressive accounting experience, including revenue accounting; international nonprofit experience strongly preferred.
- Strong knowledge of US GAAP, fund accounting, and nonprofit financial reporting.
- Experience with grants management, donor funding, and restricted contributions.
- Excellent analytical, communication, and organizational skills.
- Advanced Excel skills; familiarity with accounting software and donor management systems.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a multicultural, geographically dispersed environment.

The salary range for this position is $75,000 - $90,000 annually. This is an exempt position.
