Exhibits Technician I - Part-Time, Non-Exempt
Position Summary
MOXI seeks an Exhibits Technician I to play a critical role in advancing MOXI’s mission. This position will be responsible for the daily repair, refurbishment, installation, and maintenance of exhibit components and audio-visual equipment, including many exhibits which have electromechanical and digital systems. The ideal candidate will be someone who:
- Loves to have fun, play, and learn!
- Has an extremely strong ability to troubleshoot problems.
- Has an almost equally strong ability to implement solid solutions to identified problems.
- Is a self-starter, capable of working relatively autonomously on defined tasks, as well as on issues as they arise.
- Has great communication skills as you will need to communicate issues to other relevant staff, as well as document issues and solutions as they arise.
Report to: Associate Director of Exhibits
Expected Schedule: The position requires a commitment of 20-29 hours per week. The museum operates seven days a week and may require occasional early morning or evening shifts to support programs and special events. Candidates must demonstrate flexibility in scheduling, including availability on weekends and holidays, to meet the operational needs of the museum.

Pay: $19.00/hour - $22.00/hour
Responsibilities:
- Perform routine maintenance and cleaning on interactive exhibit components, many of which contain mechanical, electrical, electronic, or computer-controlled devices.
- Monitor the physical environment of the museum floor and exhibits to ensure that the exhibits are operating at a world class standard of functionality, cleanliness, and safety for MOXI guests.
- Monitor all museum exhibits and communicate to the museum staff on a continuous basis to identify promptly any damage, malfunctions, or wear in all exhibits.
- Assist in the daily organization, cleaning, and resetting of the maintenance shop.
- Adhere to existing maintenance practices and processes in a safe, productive, efficient, and high-quality manner.
- Communicate with guests in a way that exemplifies the first-class experience we expect to provide.
- Other duties as assigned.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
- Self-motivated; able to work cooperatively as a member of a team as well as individually without close supervision. Able to coordinate with a small team to accomplish well-defined objectives.
- Good interpersonal skills and the ability to work in a creative and collaborative environment. Receptive to the ideas of others, and willing to contribute new ideas.
- Able to execute a concrete list of tasks without needing direct supervision.
- Conscientious and detail-oriented; must have an appreciation of the necessity of craftsmanship and quality.
- The ability to follow through with paperwork, record-keeping, and documentation.
- Predictable and timely attendance is required.
- Commitment of 20–29 hours per week

- Ability to work occasional early morning or evening shifts in support of museum programs and special events
- Dependability and professionalism in meeting the operational needs of the museum
- Ability to troubleshoot and problem solve; and communicate effectively and courteously with a variety of people verbally and in writing.
- Ability to multitask and function well in a high-paced and at times stressful environment.
- Familiar with MS Office Suite
- Spanish fluency a plus.
Education and Experience:
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Experience building and/or maintaining custom-designed objects and environments (museum exhibits, scenery and props for theater or television, musical instruments, model making, a/v and computer equipment, etc).
- Demonstrated skill in carefully performing routine maintenance tasks (cleaning, lubricating, testing functionality, documenting work completed, etc.).
- Experience in the use of hand and powered tools with a demonstrated willingness to learn how to safely use new tools.
- Familiarity with facility maintenance; HVAC, plumbing, electrical, painting, a plus.
- Proven positive history as a meaningful contributor to a team.
Physical Requirements:
- Must be able to sit, stand and walk for extended periods of time
- Must be able to bend, squat, reach high above shoulders, reach low below knees, lift, push and pull up to 50 lbs.
