We are a growing team dedicated to supporting Water Treatment, Water Recovery, Water Resources, and Water Collection and Distribution divisions to ensure their equipment and systems operate efficiently. As a Diesel Generator Technician, you’ll contribute to the maintenance and repair of city generators which in turn enhances the quality of water related services provided to our community. Position Duties
Performs highly skilled preventive maintenance, diagnostics, repair, and modifications on power generation equipment and its components including gaseous, petroleum, and diesel-driven electric generators and related equipment.
Performs routine maintenance including replacing and checking fluids, checking belts, hoses, and filters.
Maintains, repairs, and diagnoses electrical, troubleshooting and diagnostic testing, and load-bank testing.
Uses a variety of hand, electric and air-driven tools such as cranes, jacks, hoists, welders, cutting torch, handsaw, etc.
Performs a full range of servicing and repairs on various types of generator equipment, including malfunctioning parts and systems.
Perform voltage checks, programming, troubleshooting and routine maintenance of Automatic Transfer Switches
Identifies advanced and complex mechanical issues either using the senses or with computer diagnostic equipment.
Identifies causes of generator problems and/or failures
Ensures repair orders are complete and accurate
Conducts safety inspections of equipment
Participates in training programs and keep current with hazardous material training requirements
Coordinates equipment installs and modifications with in house electricians
Minimum Qualifications
Education
High School Diploma or equivalent - required
Training from a technical school, focusing in diesel engines and/or electrical work - preferred
Class B Operator UST/AST Fuel Tank Storage Certification - preferred
Experience
3 years of experience in preventative maintenance, diagnostics and repair of generators and their systems, including Automatic Transfer Switches - required
Years of related experience may be substituted for required education, however education cannot be substituted for the necessary work experience. Candidates must meet the minimum required years of work experience.
NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Must be at least 18 years of age. Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license for continued employment. New hires must, as a condition of employment, pass the following pre-offer and post-offer/hire processes: in-person or virtual interviews, reference checks, background checks including local police check and sex-offender registry, DMV check and pre-employment physical.

Work is generally scheduled Monday through Friday with occasional weekends, required to respond to emergency situations as needed

Physical demands are described as medium (exert up to 50 lbs. of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 lbs. of force frequently, and up to 10 lbs. of force constantly to move objects) to heavy (exert up to 100 lbs. of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 lbs. of force frequently, and/or up to 20 lbs. of force constantly to move objects).
