The Engineer IV – Controls will provide timely review and delivery of substation control design drawings for capital and maintenance projects, including single lines, control schematics, wiring diagrams, ac & dc schematics, front views, dc battery and associated equipment drawings that adhere to all applicable standards.
Location: Hybrid (see below), Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania at Woods Run Complex
Responsibilities:
- For all projects assigned: plan; engineer; design; create drawings, prepare and review estimates, prepare permits, update schedules, create construction orders, and procure material for engineering projects associated with substation control equipment.
- Ensure sound engineering principles are employed and in accordance with all applicable codes (NESC, NEC, ANSI, IEEE) and federal, state, local codes.
- Performs technical studies and calculations, assists with the preparation of reports with conclusions and recommendations, and assists other engineers with studies of higher complexity to fulfill department goals & objectives.
- Ensure sound engineering principles are employed in accordance with all applicable Duquesne Light Company standards. Consults with and receives advice from superiors, peers and vendors to become thoroughly familiar with an assignment and to obtain necessary design and cost information. With assistance from more experienced engineers, act as project manager for assigned projects as required.
Education/Experience:
- Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET-Accredited college/university.
- Five (5+) years of relevant experience required. See below for preferred experience.
- Valid driver’s license required.
- Professional Engineer Licensure preferred.
Skills and Abilities Utilized in this Role Include:
- Experience with substation control engineering drawings i.e. dc schematics, electromechanical & microprocessor relay schemes, P&C wiring diagrams, and protection single lines.
- Experience with SCADA communications protocols such as DNP 3.0
- Experience working with electromechanical and microprocessor-based protection and control devices.
- Must be capable of walking and working within a substation environment.
- Must possess strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
