Perform skilled technical work in the installation, repair, and maintenance of computerized traffic signal systems and related infrastructure; assists higher-level employees in field or bench work involving electronic, electrical, or mechanical systems.
These Traffic Signal Technician 1, 2 or 3 positions are located at: 22211 U.S. Highway 19 North, Building 1, Clearwater, FL 33765. Work Schedule: Monday - Thursday; 6:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
What Would You Do?
- Perform work required to install traffic signal intersection controls and systems including traffic signals, detectors, controls, wiring poles, microprocessor-based traffic controllers, time switches, conduits, and appurtenances.
- Perform work required to install new traffic signals and systems including signal heads, detectors, microprocessor-based controllers, wiring, and support poles.
- Perform bench work repairs, overhauling, and rebuilding complex electronic or electrical equipment and components.
- Perform emergency and routine field servicing of traffic signal equipment, streetlights, navigational lights, and drawbridge apparatus operating or working from an aerial bucket truck.
- Performs shop related duties, including cleaning shop, organizing and stocking parts, tools, and equipment, and wiring signal heads.
- Provide lead work in the design and modification of control and test devices for troubleshooting signal equipment, analyzes difficult circuit and interconnection problems with master controls, and makes repairs as needed.
- Provide lead work in the installation, maintenance, repair, troubleshooting, and modification of electrical and electromechanical traffic signal devices and limited street lighting and prepares and submits as built construction drawings.
- Provide lead work in performing complex bench work in the repair, rebuild, modification, and programming of electric, electronic, and electro-mechanical equipment, down to the component level.
- Provide routine and emergency electrical and mechanical maintenance services for County drawbridge operations.
- Ensure compliance with the national Manual of Uniform Traffic Control Devices and IMSA practices.
- Serve as lead worker on a crew of technicians.
- Maintain, modify and repair traffic signal equipment and apparatus and detects and corrects causes of failures in traffic signal and telecommunications equipment and related apparatus.
- Assist in wiring cabinets and installing, maintaining, and repairing computer interface equipment and programming digitized controllers.
- Use hand, bench, and small power tools in repair of machinery and equipment.
- Operate and perform preventive maintenance on machinery and automotive equipment, including lift and boom trucks and jack and bore equipment.
- May set up and monitor traffic counting devices as required.
- May appear as a witness in court cases.
- Perform other related job duties as assigned.
What Do You Need To Have?
- Possession and maintenance of a valid State of Florida Driver's License upon hire with eligibility based upon evaluation of a Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) driving report.
- Assignment to work a variety of work schedules including compulsory work periods in special, emergency, and/or disaster situations.
Traffic Signal Technician 1
Two (2) years of electronic or electrical repair work experience.
An equivalent combination of education, training, and/or experience.
Traffic Signal Technician 2
Three (3) years of traffic signal experience.
An equivalent combination of education, training, and/or experience.
Traffic Signal Technician 3
Four (4) years of electronics repair experience that includes two (2) years in traffic signal equipment.
Completion of a two-year vocational or technical school program with a diploma or certification in a directly related field and two (2) years of traffic signal experience.
An equivalent combination of education, training, and/or experience.
Highly Desirable
- Knowledge of the Manual of Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD).
- IMSA Traffic Signal Technician Certification
Working knowledge of Temporary Traffic Control Devices and Design
