About Seasats

At Seasats, we're passionate about delivering maritime robotics solutions to redefine the maritime industry. Our primary products are autonomous surface vehicles (ASVs), designed to carry sensors at sea for months at a time. Our ASVs provide persistent monitoring and data acquisition to defense, scientific, and commercial customers, and have autonomously crossed both the Pacific and Atlantic oceans. After thousands of years in which the only way to gather information from the ocean was to put people on a boat, these uncrewed vessels are transforming how humanity monitors and interacts with the ocean. Here, you’ll find the space and opportunity to do your life’s best work.

Description

The vehicle software team is responsible for integrating all of the onboard subsystems into a cohesive whole.  As part of the team, you'll be responsible for creating and integrating the software that drives our ASVs -- from integrating new sensors and payloads, to developing new navigation algorithms, to building robust communications pipelines, to optimizing power management. This team is critical to the successful operation of our ASVs, whether they’re navigating through harbors or operating with limited communication hundreds of miles offshore.

As a perception software engineer, you will help take our perception system to the next level. You’ll design and implement algorithms that process data from LiDAR, radar, cameras, and other sensors to build a reliable picture of the vessel’s environment. Your work will provide the foundation for high-level decision-making and directly impact the safety and autonomy of our platform.

On a day-by-day basis you will:

  • Collaborate with the vehicle software team to select and evaluate potential new sensors.
  • Build perception algorithms for detection, tracking, avoidance, and state estimation.
  • See your code come to life on the water as you test and tune algorithms at local launch sites.
  • Optimize code for real-time execution on embedded platforms.
  • Partner with vehicle software, UI, and operations teams to translate the vehicle’s perception of its environment into intuitive, actionable displays for operators.
  • Build tests and expand our simulation environment to rigorously evaluate algorithms and prevent regressions.

This is an excellent opportunity to do high impact work, see your code go into live field robotics applications, and join a fun and hardworking team on the cutting edge of ocean autonomy.

Minimum Qualifications

  • 4+ years of professional software industry experience, with at least 2 of those years spent solving perception problems
  • Strong proficiency in Python
  • Proficiency in C++
  • Proven experience with sensor data processing (radar, LiDAR, GPS, IMU, visual, and acoustic data)
  • Familiarity with common perception algorithms (clustering, segmentation, filtering, sensor fusion, etc.)
  • Excellent communication skills and a team-oriented attitude

Preferred Qualifications

  • Proficiency working in Linux environments
  • Experience working with embedded or resource-constrained hardware
  • A background in computer vision and knowledge of current ML models
  • Experience with path-planning and control algorithms

Pay and Benefits

Salary: $140,000-$190,000 base + stock options.

Along with your salary, you’ll receive perks including:

  • Competitive insurance (including a 99% employer-covered Gold HMO plan or other options)
  • 401k matching up to 4% of salary
  • Four free lunches per week
  • An employee activity fund
  • A pet-friendly office
  • Unlimited/Flex PTO
