Description

Overview:
We are seeking an experienced RF Power Amplifier (PA) Engineer to join our team specializing in designs less than 1kW. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in RF design engineering, power electronics, and related systems. The primary focus will be on designing and optimizing RF circuits and systems that ensure high performance, efficiency, reliability, and low power consumption. These Power Amplifiers (PA) are used within Land Mobile Radio (LMR) systems.

Key Responsibilities:

RF Design & Development:

  • Design and optimize power electronics RF circuits for Power Amplifiers.
  • Product Development on RF related componentry, antennas, power amplifiers, and other key components.
  • Develop and implement RF circuits and systems within strict power constraints while maintaining optimal performance.

Sub System Integration & Design Verification Testing (DVT):

  • Integrate RF designs into PA products, ensuring compatibility with system components.
  • Perform comprehensive RF testing, including signal integrity, noise analysis, power consumption, overall system and environmental performance.
  • Conduct troubleshooting and debugging of RF circuits, focusing on power efficiency, phase matching and impedance.

Low Power Optimization:

  • Implement techniques to minimize power consumption in RF circuits and devices.
  • Apply energy-efficient designs in battery-operated land mobile communication systems.
  • Monitor and analyze power consumption trends and performance trade-offs.

Compliance & Standards:

  • Ensure RF designs comply with industry standards, regulations, and certifications such as FCC, and other relevant standards for LMR systems.
  • Participate in development and documentation of DVT and product qualification plans to ensure regulatory compliance.

Collaboration:

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including multi disciplined hardware engineers, software/firmware engineers, and product managers to develop end-to-end Power Amplifier New and Current Product Development lifecycles.
  • Provide technical support and expertise to ensure smooth integration of RF components into larger systems.

Continuous Improvement:

  • Keep up to date with the latest lifecycle management and electronic trends and technologies in RF engineering and power electronics design.
  • Propose new design and process solutions to improve performance and efficiency of RF components and systems.

Requirements

Qualifications:

Education

  •  Bachelor's or master’s degree in electrical engineering, RF Engineering, or related field.

Experience:

  • 5 or more years hands-on experience in RF circuit design, power electronics, preferably within LMR products.
  • Proficient using RF simulation and analysis tools such as PADS, Microwave Office, or similar tools.
  • Experience in antenna design, impedance matching, and propagation analysis for land mobile communication.

Skills:

  • Strong understanding of RF, signal propagation, and power optimization techniques.
  • Knowledge of modern communication standards (e.g., P25, TETRA, DMR) and application.
  • Proficiency in RF test equipment such as spectrum analyzers, network analyzers, and signal generators.
  • Proficiency with printed circuit board (PCB) and assembly (PCBA) design, layout, and fabrication processes.
  • Proficiency with embedded systems, microcontrollers, and software-defined systems is a plus.

Soft Skills:

  • Strong root cause, corrective action, problem-solving and analytical skills (8D, WHY).
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
  • Detail-oriented with ability to manage multiple projects.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in development of High-Power Amplifier (HPA) componentry and systems.
  • Experience with digital signal processing (DSP) in RF systems.
  • Knowledge of noise analysis, interference mitigation, and spectrum management techniques.
  • Experience with certification and compliance testing.
