Position Summary
The FP&A Analyst at the Minneapolis Heart Institute Foundation (MHIF) plays a critical role in supporting the organization’s financial health and strategic decision-making. Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer (CFO), this position drives the implementation of strategies and goals for an integrated reporting system, including leveraging technology to improve the content, timing, and efficiency of reporting. This enables timely, data-informed decisions for both internal and external stakeholders.
In close collaboration with the CFO, the FP&A Analyst looks to the future to equip MHIF with the financial systems and insights needed for sustainable growth and operational effectiveness. Core responsibilities include budgeting, forecasting, financial modeling, assisting with month-end close, and delivering actionable insights to leadership—ensuring that financial resources are aligned with MHIF’s mission and strategic objectives.
Key Responsibilities may include:
Budgeting & Forecasting
• Lead the development of annual and multi-year budgets in collaboration with department budget managers and teams.
• Prepare regular financial forecasts, scenario analyses, and variance reports to inform decision-making and resource allocation.
Financial Analysis & Reporting
• Analyze financial data, research and education program costs, and funding streams to provide clear, data-driven recommendations.
• Lead the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports for leadership, board, and key stakeholders.
• Develop dashboards and KPIs to monitor financial and programmatic performance.
• Lead team efforts for month-end journal entries and weekly deposit processes to facilitate timely month-end close.
• Manage monthly research study revenue and expense entries, as well as endowment and investment accounting.
Process Improvement & Internal Controls
• Identify opportunities to enhance financial processes, increase efficiency, and strengthen internal controls.
• Lead coordination and preparation for the annual audit process and ensure compliance with organizational policies and regulatory requirements.
• Oversee the coordination of the annual Form 990 informational return, working with the entire finance team.
Collaboration & Communication
• Partner with research, education, and fundraising teams to align financial planning with organizational goals.
• Coordinate interactions between the Finance and Development teams, including weekly status meetings, gift review, monthly reconciliation, and production reporting oversight.
• Communicate complex financial information clearly to non-financial stakeholders and senior leadership.
• Serve as a liaison or support for the Finance and Audit Committee of the Board of Directors.

What Sets you Apart
Required
• Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or a related field.
• 5+ years of experience in financial planning, analysis, or accounting; nonprofit or research sector experience preferred.
• Advanced proficiency in Excel and financial modeling; experience with financial management or donor management systems is a plus.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, mission-driven environment.
Preferred
• Experience with grant reporting, donor stewardship, and compliance is highly desirable.
• Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or Certified Management Accountant (CMA) designation
• Experience using Great Plains, Microsoft Dynamics, and Active Reporter
• Experience interacting with Board of Directors
